WHEN ZHAO HAD said he would broadcast a message to the Fire Nation, I hadn't expected it to be quite so literal. But when I clicked on the FNBS News Channel the next morning, the top Hot Headline was 'RENOWNED COMMANDER ZHAO FINDS THE LONG-LOST AVATAR.'
I almost spat out the rice I was eating.
Which would have been bad, because they didn't give me very much food.
The reporter lady bade the viewers a good morning and told the story: "As you all know, firebenders have been searching for the Avatar, for almost one hundred years."
The screen cut to a couple of images and soundless videos of firebenders travelling the world and breaking into people's homes and interrogating them, to no avail. My lip curled in disgust, and I wondered what other methods they used to get what they wanted.
"However, as of yesterday, the famous and recently promoted Commander Zhao has finally found him," the reporter declared. "Shunyuan Yang, at East Embers Port, has the details."
Animated flames burned across the screen as it transitioned to Shunyuan Yang. He spoke excitedly, unmistakable glee in his amber eyes. "Yes, thank you, Mingzhu. I spoke with the Commander himself a couple of hours ago, and he confirmed that the Avatar is indeed the last airbender. It is apparent, however, that he found a method to preserve his body during that long century, because I was told specifically that he had the appearance of a young boy. He also seems to have only mastered airbending, and is not a very good fighter. Commander Zhao is confident that he will be captured very soon, given that thousands are already out hunting him."
