"YOU BOYS BETTER WAKE THE FUCK UP, IT'S CHRISTMAS MOTHERFUCKERS!" I heard grumbles echo throughout the house, and then I heard Maia scream something from beside me.
"JESUS CHRIST TOMMY I'LL KILL YOU YOU LITTLE SHIT!" I laughed, turning to look at her.
"I'LL JOIN YOU ON THAT ONE!" I heard Techno yell, before there were muffled thumps from the floors before.
"COUNT ME IN!" Sapnap added. I shook my head.
"I guess we ought to get up, huh?" I asked Maia. Her hair was messy and her eyes were tired, but happy.
"Yeah. Are you doing ok?" She asked gently.
"I still have that weird feeling." I said, sighing. "I feel like I'm leading Dream on."
"You are." She replied, giggling. "But that's ok sometimes." I shrugged, and stood up. A few moments later, we had coffee in hand and joined the others in walking towards the ballroom where the Christmas tree was.
Heaven knows how they got it in there or how they would get it out, but that wasn't my problem.
We all gathered around the tree in a circle, sitting together in little groups. Maia leaned on my shoulder while I pressed against Dream, who, of course had Sapnap's head on his thigh.
"Tommy and Tubbo, guess what? You two are santa's elves, so start handing out presents." Wilbur chuckled as the boys clambered over each other to grab presents and pass them around.
I carefully tore open a package from Dream. It contained a crescent necklace similar to the one I had seen him wear. There was a note in the box, and I unfolded it.
Merry Christmas George!
I figured if you had one of these you'd always remember that I love you to the moon and back.
I looked at the engraving on the charm, which was the tell tale phrase. I smiled at him and he smiled at me.
"Help me put it on?" I asked, and he nodded, taking the necklace from my hand and unclasping it. He laid it gently around my neck, my skin warm from his lingering touch. I looked down at it and placed my hand over it. "Thank you, Dream."
He murmured a response as Tommy thrust a package into his hand, running off to be followed by Tubbo. I recognized the gift I had given him. He began to open it.
Inside was a bracelet, with lavender toned beads. It rested on top of a white sweatshirt, which was patterned with lilac flowers and had been custom embroidered with his signature smiley face. The note that rested upon it read "Since I may have borrowed your hoodie indefinitely"
He laughed, and held up the hoodie.
"Do you know the symbolism behind lilacs?" I asked. He shook his head, and I saw Sapnap raise his eyebrows.
"Woah, lilacs are-" I cut him off.
"It's unimportant," I said, glaring at Sapnap. He shrugged. We spent the rest of the morning sharing Christmas stories and drinking hot cocoa.
When we grew tired of the clamor, Dream and I separated from the group and sat down in the pet room.
"Dream?" I said curiously.
"Yeah?"
"You've never really," I paused, knowing this might cross boundaries. "Talked about your father." He sighed.
"He was a dick. He had full custody when I was younger, but he didn't make enough money to keep food on the table. My siblings all lived with my mom and my stepdad. DHS never cared, that's America for you. I wouldn't eat for weeks, and finally I got tired of his bullshit, so I left." He said simply, although his eyes flashed and I could tell there was something he wasn't telling me.
"That's terrible."
"Yeah. Your turn." He replied, changing the subject.
"Well, I already told you my dad died when I was 7. My mom remarried when I was 8. He was a horrible guy from the start but then he started to hit us, and go out drinking almost every night. Maia's house was my only escape, along with my PC. When Maia moved away, I made her hide me in a moving van. When we got to where she was moving too, her parents understood that going back to Hayden wasn't an option. So they raised me and let me stay in their home until I was 18. I paid rent as soon as I started working. I always felt like I was a burden. Then Maia's grandma from the states got sick, so her family decided to move back to their old home. I was old enough to be on my own, so I bought a flat in London and started streaming."
"Wow. You just, hopped in a moving van and never saw your mom again?" Dream asked wonderously.
"I couldn't take it anymore. I'm sure my mom was heartbroken but I know she understands. Sadly, she probably won't ever escape him." I frowned, petting Patches.
"I'm sorry." He said, pulling me into a hug.
"Guess we both had it pretty rough, huh." I chuckled. He rubbed circles on my back.
"Honestly, this is the first holiday season I've enjoyed." He murmured. I softly agreed, yawning.
"Time for bed already?" He laughed. I nodded, my eyelids heavy.
"Carry me?" I asked hesitantly. He picked me up bridal style and carried me into my room, setting me gently on my bed. He tucked the blankets over me, humming softly under his breath.
"I love you George." He whispered. I intertwined my fingers with his as he sat on my bedside.
"Could you sing me a song?" I pleaded. He rolled his eyes and began to hum.
"You held your head like a hero
On a history book page
It was the end of a decade
But the start of an age"
I felt myself drifting into sleep, fighting to stay awake to hear the sweet melody.
"Long live the walls we crashed through
All the kingdom lights shined just for me and you
I was screaming, "long live all the magic we made"
And bring on all the pretenders
One day we will be remembered"
I wondered where the world would take us next, but it didn't really matter, as long as I was with Dream.
"Long live all the mountains we moved
I had the time of my life
Fighting dragons with you"
