Mullaikaaga Kathirin Thedal

~ Ever as Before ~

For the next few days, Kathir came home only for a few hours at night and stayed in their room only if Mullai didn't try to initiate a conversation with him. When she realised that he would only spend those few hours with her, if she agreed to give him the peace of her silence, she didn't want to add herself in the list of all the pressures he was handling already. He made a few sudden decisions to the surprise of the whole family. He brought home their distant relative Kamatchi akka to take care of all the household chores after discussing with Moorthy. Her family was not well to do for a long time and the recent demise of her husband had made her ask for shelter and a job from a common source, as her children had abandoned her and her husband long back. Kathir remembered hearing about her weeks ago and thought to bring her home. She was over 50 years old but was someone who loved taking care of a home. She was a very sweet innocent caring person and showered everyone with love from the time of her arrival.

Mullai's work was reduced to very minimal after she came. Mullai as usual cooked the meals and took care of Lakshmi amma. Kamatchi akka never let her do anything beyond that. After being occupied with heavy work for over a week, Mullai felt very idle in these few days but she got her much needed rest and was kind of relieved from the over-burdening stress. They all loved having Kamatchi akka too. Kannan exclaimed many times to Mullai not even the stupidest would abandon such a caring person and that too her children doing that to her was unforgivable in his eyes. More the free time Mullai had, the more she missed Kathir. He had made her understand by bringing Kamatchi akka that her sacrificial thoughts were so baseless. She felt she had gone overboard in her display of affection. She should have at least listened to her heart first, which had actually delayed her consumption of the medicine before her mother caught her.

Mullai had learnt to not mess up with Kathir's anger again. He had really turned into a beast for that few hours. She also learnt that to convince him, she needs to depend on time. She made sure she didn't give any lame excuses about what she did to him. Though she did it with a pure heart, she too felt it was so abominable for a woman to do that without a proper reason. Meena and Kanna knew something had gone extremely wrong between them and they thought that to stay out and let them deal with it, as a wiser option than intruding in it. Kathir started calling Kanna instead of Mullai to inquire about her meals and Kanna got into trouble if Mullai had not eaten beyond a specified time. So he made sure Mullai eats along with him to save him from his brother. Mullai too made sure his meals reached him on time and he eats them through Saravanan or Kumaresan appa.

A week passed in this way and Moorthy had called Mullai to the shop again so she could manage the accounts like before. Since she was having more free time, she had herself asked Moorthy to call her if there was a need. Kanna was to drop her and to take her back daily. Kathir was so stubborn to budge. It was like those days where her coffee arrived on time for her. When it happened after all these days again, she could only smile at how beautiful a soul her husband was. Except for that outburst, he never hurt her in any other way. Who would fight through silence and care like her Kathir? These wordless days between them had only increased their love for each other. They were growing closer in the weirdest way. While Mullai was drinking her coffee with a smile thinking about her man, he entered into the shop with a relief and calmness which had an immediate effect of serenity to everyone around.
