"Wait. Carol, don't!"

Daryl was sprinting over to them before he even finished his sentence. Relief washing over the Winchesters faces when they heard his voice as Carol glanced over her shoulder towards him.

"They're with Negan-" She started to argue.

"They're Winchesters. They're Y/N's brothers." Daryl said, cutting her off as he reached their side.

For a moment Carol didn't say anything as she glanced back over at the brothers, her gun still raised as she eyed them cautiously. Slowly, she lowered the gun and looked over at something to the left and Daryl followed her line of sight to find Siddiq crouched down beside Tobin who had a nasty looking cut across his chest.

"Go, I got this." Daryl said, nodding in Tobin's direction, knowing that Carol cared about the other man.

Carol looked back over at him with an almost questioning look and Daryl simply nodded knowing she didn't want to leave him alone with the brothers, but he knew Sam and Dean. It may have been years, but he knew the Winchesters, they weren't a threat. Not to him.

"Go." Daryl repeated.

Carol nodded before she jogged over to others, leaving him standing there with Sam and Dean.

"Thanks for saving us. It's good to see you again, Daryl." Sam suddenly said, speaking up for the first as he took a step forward and held his hand out towards him.

Daryl glanced between the brothers, taking in how much they had changed since the last time he had seen them.

Sam's hair had gotten longer, although his own hair had definitely gotten longer too. Dean looked more guarded than usual and had a nasty cut along his forehead that wasn't there when Daryl saw him at Sanctuary. They had both changed over the years, yet at the same time they hadn't changed a bit. Even the damn flannel and jeans were the same.

"Ya saved me first."

He shook Sam's hand who gave him a friendly smile before Dean stepped forward, holding his own hand out and Daryl stared at it for a moment before he took it.

"Look... about what went down at Sanctuary the day you escaped." Dean began to say as he rubbed his face with his hands and sighed. "I'm sorry. I had to keep up the act in front of the Saviours, although I guess it didn't really matter anyway. We got locked up the moment Negan found out you two escaped."

Daryl wouldn't say it, but he still hated the older Winchester a little for that. Dean had pinned you to a wall with a damn angel blade to your throat. Deep down Daryl knew that Dean had to pretend to be with the Saviours, but that didn't make him feel any better about what Dean had done his own sister.

"Dean? Sam?" Rick suddenly called out, not giving Daryl a chance to reply to Dean before Rick walked over to them with wide eyes. "How'd you guys get out?"

"Dwight. He slipped us a paper clip, that was all Sammy needed to pick the lock." Dean responded, patting his brother on the back who rolled his eyes.

"We went to Alexandria first, saw the place abandon and figured you all had come here. Guess we were right." Sam added, glancing around the community before turning his attention back to him and Rick. "Where's Y/N anyway?"

Daryl spared a quick glance at Rick who had an uneasy expression, clearly realising that no matter how they worded it, the brothers were not going to react well to this. Hell, Daryl didn't react well to this either, so he wouldn't blame them.

"Hey, where's our sister?" Dean questioned, his tone now dead serious.

This was not going to go down well.
