Daryl ended up spending the rest of the afternoon swinging an axe and cutting wood for everyone's campfires.
He spent hours cutting the wood, until blisters formed on his hands and his palms started to bleed. He kept cutting until there were no more wooden blocks to cut and he contemplated going outside the walls to find more, but then Rosita and Glenn had returned with Eugene in tow.
They had done it. They had gotten Eugene back. The Saviours didn't have a bullet maker anymore, at least something went right today.
Daryl watched as Rosita walked Eugene into Barrington House, no doubt going to lock him in a room and have a stern talking to. Eugene was a prick and Daryl didn't like him much, but he was glad they got him back.
"Hey, man." Glenn's voice suddenly called out, snapping Daryl out of his thoughts to find the other man walking over to him. "How's Y/N?"
"Dunno... her breathing is getting weaker 'n she ain't wakin' up. Her brothers think she's dying." Daryl answered, hating the fact that he could feel tears starting to rise in his eyes again. He had cried enough these past few days, how many more tears could he have left?
"Daryl... I'm so sorry." Glenn said sincerely and Daryl nodded, biting his lip as he looked down at the ground, refusing to meet Glenn's gaze.
Glenn stayed with him for a while and told him how they got Eugene back. He told him how Eugene threw up all over Rosita and tried to run away, but they managed to catch him and Rosita had punched him in the face for it which caused Daryl to laugh a little at that story.
By the time the sun started to set, everyone began getting ready for bed after Rick announced that tomorrow they were going to end it.
The people of Hilltop, Kingdom and Alexandria all got settled in for the night. Some with tents outside, others sharing the trailers and others setting up sleeping bags inside Barrington House.
Daryl contemplated going back into Barrington House to sleep in the room with you and your brothers, that's where his makeshift blankets were on the floor, but he couldn't bring himself to do it.
So, he ended up keeping watch for half the night before Jesus confronted him and dragged him into his trailer to sleep on the couch.
He didn't get much sleep that night, but it wasn't like it was the first time. He woke up before the sun and made his way outside to find Rick standing by one of the cars with a map folded out on top.
Rick told him about what Gregory had said, that the Saviours were planning to attack again. So, the two of them went over the plan together and once the others started to wake up, they explained the plan again in more detail.
"We'll stick to this road, keep to the trees, we'll get there quicker. Plus, we can keep an eye on the road that way." Daryl explained pointing at the map after Rick explained the plan.
"Yeah, if they're planning anything, we'll see it." Rosita said, backing him up as he looked around at the group.
"You think you can trust Gregory?" Michonne asked, looking over at Maggie who shrugged her shoulders.
"I locked him up inside the house. He knew I wouldn't let him walk around free. He knew he was coming back to that. He doesn't believe in anything except for himself and he'd have to believe in the Saviours a whole lot to send us into a trap and think it would work out for him." Maggie explained and Daryl knew she had a point and frankly it was the only plan they had, so it had to work.
"We need all the people we can get for this... it's going to be a fight. Daryl... is there any chance Sam and Dean will join us?" Rick asked, looking over at him.
