Apple pie and midnight trips to the corner store -Kenma x reader-

It was a normal night during the middle of spring, the streets deserted, houses having parties, people drinking alcohol, the normal for your neighborhood at this time of year. You were walking to the corner store a few blocks from your house, which was probably not the best idea, and your mom would kill you if she found out you went out alone, but you honestly didn’t care. You needed an energy drink because you were trying to get a project done you hadn’t started until the night before it was due, but that was when you did your best work, so you really didn’t care. You walked into the store, going to the drink aisle, finding that your usual energy drink was gone, making you unconsciously swear under your breath.

“Oh, are you looking for this?” you looked up, seeing a familiar boy holding the last of your favorite energy drinks. You nodded, slightly irritated that this guy was kind of teasing you with the drink, but after examining his face closer you realized it was Kenma Kozume from your school, who was in most of your classes, and who you had done group projects with, and who helped you study for biology once.

“Can I have it? I have to get that project for english done and that’s the only one that tastes like a fruit smoothie,” you tried to hide your desperation in your voice. He nodded, Kenma being his usual quiet self, “Soooo, what are you doing here at midnight? Staying up for that english project as well?”

“No, I have a level I’ve been working on for a few days that I can’t get past, the minions around the boss are almost stronger than the boss itself.”

“I didn’t expect you to do that sort of thing on a school night.”

“And you don’t seem dumb enough to finish a project at the last minute.”

“Damn, hitting the hard spots I see, you’re pretty mean Kozume-Kun,” you laughed out, taking hold of the energy drink as he handed it to you, “Let me make it up to you for letting me have the energy drink, I’ll buy your things for you.”

“You don’t have to do that….” Kenma trailed off, face lighting up with a blush as you popped up and took his hand, dragging him closer to the energy drink aisle, looking into his basket, seeing an apple energy drink, an apple pie, and some caffeine pills. 

“Alrighty, I’m gonna buy you a few of these,” you let go of his hand, crouching down and grabbing a few of the apple energy drinks, putting them into the basket, “Just don’t drink too many of these, you’ll get sick if you do.”

Kenma quietly sat there, blank expression as always, holding his basket as it got heavier as you placed four drinks into the basket, making his expression turn into one of surprise. You finally stopped putting the drinks into the basket, standing up and grabbing his hand, heading to the regular drink section, picking up a few strawberry milks. After that you went to the candy aisle, picking up some gum and strawberry candies, Kenma still being dragged along, the basket being extremely heavy. Going to the hot foods section, picking up some fresh Takoyaki sticks, your favorite snack. Eyeing the apple pie around, you grabbed another one, placing it in the basket.

“Uh, I-I…... I-Isn’t this going to cost a lot of money…” Kenma quietly questioned, head turning the other way as you led him to the checkout.

“I would’ve had to buy those strawberry things to keep my sisters mouth shut about me going out at midnight alone since my mom would probably lock me in my room if she found out,” you replied, “Besides, the only energy drink I like was the one you were going to take and I literally need it to pass this midterm.”
