Alex's POV - Friday, May 15, 2020, 5:29 pm
I walked back into the house, backpack slung over one shoulder and a stack of envelopes in my other hand. George Washington, the man who had taken me in when I first moved here, looked up from his spot at the dining table. "How was your day?"
"All good. I got the mail on the way in."
"Thanks."
I sat down across from George and began to sift through the mail, announcing what it was and who it was for as I went.
"Bill for George, bill for George, postcard for George, college letter for me, bill for-" I froze, the light blue envelope still clutched in my hand. George leaned over, suddenly more interested in the mail than he was when I was listing off his bills.
"Which college is it from?"
I flipped the letter over and stared at the calligraphic KC embossed in the corner of the envelope. George noticed it too, and we both looked at it for a moment before he looked up at me.
"Are you gonna open it, or are you just gonna stare at it?"
I shot him a glare, then, with shaking hands, carefully tore the seal of the envelope and pulled out the letter. I read it aloud.

Office of Admissions"George and I looked at each other for a moment. He smiled, and I grinned back.
"You did it!"
"I DID IT!"
That night, we went out for ice cream with Martha, George's wife. It was quite possibly the most exciting night of my life. So exciting, in fact, I could almost ignore the constant ache in my chest.

John's POV - Tuesday, June 9, 2020, 6:20 pm
"Hey, John, you've got a letter."
I walked over and warily accepted the blue envelope from Hercules's outstretched hand.
"What does it say, mon ami?" Lafayette, the foreign exchange student who stayed with us during the year, asked.
"Lemme open it first, then I'll tell ya," I replied, playfully pushing the Frenchman away. I opened up the letter and pulled out the piece of paper inside.
"Read it aloud!"
I complied, clearing my throat. "Hear yea, hear yea! My name is John Laurens, and I would like to present this here letter.
"Dear Mr. John Laurens,
This is an acknowledgment of your application to the Visual Arts program at King's College. We have reviewed yer application and all of the supportin' documents and are happy to inform you of yer acceptance to our program.
