John's POV - Saturday, November 7, 2020, 1:03 pm

I laid on the bed, pain coursing through my body. I had accidentally cried again, so Francis had had to use the dagger and the lighter, which was a new way he helped me get stronger. I knew he was only trying to help, but it still hurt.

I couldn't tell him that, though.

Otherwise, he would say I needed to learn some more.

I heard scuffling through the wall as the neighbor in 318 did... something. Not entirely sure what. I didn't really care, though. I was just waiting to black out from the pain.

And soon, I did.

Alex's POV - Saturday, November 7, 2020, 1:24 pm

Casey led us into a dorm room made smaller by the darkness. He didn't turn on the lights, instead heading back to the second bedroom. He beckoned for us to follow.

318B looked like a mad scientist's laboratory. Every available surface was covered with scattered pieces of metal, wires, and computer parts. He turned around and looked at us.

"Casey Deacon, at your service," he said, extending his hand. I shook it, and he said, "What do you need to know?"

"What's going on in room 317?"

He whistled. "That's expensive information, my friend. Are you able to pay for it?"

"How much?"

He thought for a moment. "$500."

Felix looked at me. "You're not seriously going to-"

"Deal," I said. "I'll get you the money by Tuesday. Now, what's up with Francis and John?"

"Francis Kinloch isn't who he says he is."

"Who is he?"

"He works for a man named Henry Laurens. Ever heard of him?"

"Yeah," I said. "What's he doing here?"

"Henry hired him to fix his son."

My head spun. "Fix?"

"The kid's gay. Henry believes that that's a sin. Francis is just the minion that was sent here to fix him."

My stomach felt as though it were resting somewhere in my toes. I closed my eyes.

"Fix him how?"

Casey shifted. "He's been hired to beat the gay out of him, but the guy's a sadist. He'll do anything just to watch John in pain, and that's exactly what Henry hired him for."

"How do I know this isn't made up?"

Casey sighed. "You think, as a senior studying to be a detective, I would lie about a case and ruin any chance I have of getting my dream job with only a semester left of college?"

I stared at him. "You're a senior?"

He scowled. "Yeah. Why?"

"No reason. Anyway, why haven't you reported this to the dean?"

"Can't, for the same reason you didn't believe me. Plus, Francis is a damn good liar. If I reported it and he got let go, I'd be dead within the hour."
