Alex's POV - Tuesday, August 17, 2020, 11:12 am

I awoke to someone tapping me on the shoulder. I sat bolt upright, looking around wildly before my eyes landed on a woman in gray rags. She grinned at me, then held out her hand.

"I'm Frankie! Who're you?"

I blushed. My name's Alex, I signed.

Frankie frowned. "You can't talk, Alex?"

My eyes widened. You know ASL?

She chuckled. "Yeah. Learned it in high school. Now, what're you doin' out here?"

I shrugged. I'm trying to get back to New York City. And I don't know if I can talk anymore.

She looked at me, cocking her head."You know anyone in New York?"

I nodded, and she smiled at me. "You got any spare change? There's a pay phone nearby."

How am I supposed to use a pay phone?

She frowned, then brightened. "If you're supposed to be in New York, maybe we could go to the police station. They can get you back."

I thought for a moment. Good idea. Frankie helped me up, and together, we walked down to the station. When we entered, an officer looked up at us. "What do you two want?"

Frankie cleared her throat. "This young'un says he's s'posed to be in New York City."

The officer peered at me. "What's you're name, man?"

Alexander Hamilton, I signed. The officer looked at Frankie.

"He says it's Alexander Hamilton," she translated. The cop typed something into the computer, and his eyes widened.

"You the kid who went missing in March?"

I nodded, and he grabbed his phone and punched in some digits.

"Yeah... Athens, Texas... Officer Connors... Missing persons... Alexander Hamilton?... Yes... No clue... Will do. Bye." He hung up.

"New York says to keep you here until they can send someone down and contact the guy who filed the report. You can sit while you're waiting."

Frankie turned to me. "I'd better be going. Good luck, Alex."

Bye, Frankie. And thank you for everything.

"Not a problem, kid."

John's POV - Tuesday, August 17, 2021, 3:42 pm

I was falling asleep in physics instead of doing my homework when my phone began to buzz. The teacher looked at me. "Take it in the hall, Mr. Laurens."

"Yes, sir. Thank you." I walked into the hallway, pressed accept, and held the phone up to my ear. "Hello?"

"Hello. Is this a Mr. John Laurens?"

"Yes, this is John."

"Mr. Laurens, did you file a missing persons report for a Mr. Alexander Hamilton on the sixth of March, 2021?"
