Alex's POV - Friday, August 21, 2020, 7:52 pm

I had finally finished that essay for Mr. Owens. I smiled proudly. He wanted ten pages? Well, he was gonna get 51. I headed out to the small print shop on campus to print out my masterpiece. When I got there, I saw someone familiar behind the counter, because apparently everyone I knew at this school had a job on campus. Today, she wore her curly brown hair in a half-up, half-down style, and had it pinned up with a bow. She wore a red crop top and a white skirt, with white Converse.

"Hello, and welcome to the KC Print Shoppe, how can I- Alex!" She exclaimed, beaming. "What brings you here?"

"That essay Mr. Owens assigned us. I finished it."

"Did you do all ten pages?"

I grinned. "Joke's on him, he gets to grade fifty-one pages of some of my finest writing."

Maria burst out laughing. "Alex- Oh my God... Why am I not surprised that you'd pull something that petty?"

"Because I am a naturally petty person."

"You can say that again."

"Because I am a naturally petty person."

She snorted, then said, "Let me get that printed out for you. Just log in to that computer over there and-"

As she led me over to a computer and walked me through how to print out my masterpiece, she leaned over my shoulder. I couldn't help but notice that she smelled like cinnamon, or how close she was to me. As she showed me which printer to select, the bell above the door dinged open. A brown-skinned man wearing a black leather jacket walked in, and said, "Maria, baby, where are you?" He spotted us standing there, and strode over. I looked at Maria, and noticed that her face had paled considerably.

She whirled around. "Hi, James, how are you?"

"Just fine, now that I'm here with you." He grinned. I got the instinctive feeling that I hated this man immensely. He turned toward me. "Who's this little creep?"

"Th-that's Alex," Maria stuttered. I really did not like him, at all. He put his arm around her waist and pulled her closer to him. He looked at me, and I desperately wished to punch him in the face. His face looked very punchable.

"You stay away from my girl, you hear me, Alex?" he said, glaring at me venomously. I had to remind myself that getting in a fight in a school-owned building was not a smart thing to do.

"That's going to be difficult, considering we sit right next to each other in English," I snapped, glaring at him.

His eyes widened for a moment, and then he laughed. "You really don't know who I am, do you?"

"No, and I don't particularly care."

He sneered at me. "Does the name James Reynolds mean anything to you?"

"No."

"Well it's gonna in about three seconds," he said.

The last thing I saw was his leather-clad fist.

John's POV - Friday, August 21, 2020, 8:25 pm

I was sitting in my room, fucking around on my phone, when Laf called me. Laf hates talking on the phone, so I knew something was seriously wrong. I picked up.

"Hello?"

"Alexandre s'est battu, il est à Manhattan General, il est gravement blessé," Lafayette cried, sounding rushed and terrified.
