Normal POV

Ah, winter break went by so quickly. I wished winter break wasn't just two weeks, at least a month, maybe? I mentally complained as I waited for my boyfriend and his best friend at a junction near my place. Yes, my boyfriend, Kuroo Tetsurou.

Things may seem dark in the future, but we were having the time of our lives presently. We had just celebrated the new year's together, over at Kuroo's house where I was also properly introduced as his girlfriend. His mother was extremely supportive like she had been waiting for a long time.

I spotted the two of them and waved them over. Kuroo jogged up to me and swept me off my feet and spun me around in his arms. "Good morning Kuroo and Kenma," I greeted them when he placed me back onto the ground. Both of them greeted me, but Kuroo added an extra peck on my cheek, receiving an eye roll from Kenma because he was annoyed.

When I informed Kasun-san about my relationship, he was skeptical at first. He warned me about everything, cutting off ties, potentially putting him at risk, all those shenanigans. I listened to them, of course. I was expecting him to tell me to end it with him. But, he approved of it in the end.

"I know how difficult it must be for you. We've already taken a third of your middle school year away from you and probably the next half of your first year of high school. I will allow this only because I trust you to do the right thing when or if the time comes," Kasun-san's advice rang in my head once again when I saw Kuroo messing around with Kenma in front of me.

I know what I'm putting on the line here. I won't let my personal relationships get in the middle of my work. Speaking of work, the weather has been getting warmer. Now, the second week of January, the team had expected the drug traffickers to be back in business. Things would get busier; tests and exams to take note of, commitment with the volleyball team on top of work. I huffed out a sigh and watched as my breath fogged up in front of me.

Kuroo came over and linked his arm around my shoulder, "Hey, don't worry. I've taught you well. You're gonna get straight As this term." He seemed to have read my mind. In the most recent test that Kuroo had given me, I had scored a 50% in math and 58% in science. They weren't good, but at the very least, I'm no longer failing. I smiled at him and the three of us parted ways for class.

"Eh??!?! You got together with Kageyama?" The volleyball club exclaimed when Kuroo boasted to the team about us. I was sitting in my usual spot on the second floor, wanting to find a hole to bury myself in. "Ah! I'm so jealous!" Yamamoto's voice boomed from below me. I snuck a peek at them and all eyes were on me. I retreated to my corner and focused on my work.

While the team was doing their standard routine downstairs, I continued to observe the gardening club. It certainly had gotten busier this term. More students were going in and out of the tents. Mr Deki, our prime suspect, was hanging up schedules and barking orders at club members.

Something about him was different. He had gotten skinnier and his face was more chiseled compared to before the break. Students who went up to him to ask about something always sent him on edge. He was constantly looking over his shoulder with bulging eyes.

Drugs... I'm certain of it. As I typed my observations into my laptop, I couldn't help but feel sad at the sight. No matter how much people say drugs help relieve stress, the aftermath would always be devastating. Seeing someone losing their sanity slowly but surely... would be heartbreaking. I shook my head from those thoughts.

The sooner we gather more information, the faster we can stop this circle from expanding and putting more innocent people at risk. I closed up my laptop and made my way downstairs to "pay my rent". "Please take care of Kuroo, Kageyama-chan!" The club greeted me as I jogged up to the court in my sports attire. I was taken aback.

"What're you guys talking about?" I glanced over at Kuroo. What did he tell them now? He shrugged at me. "Kuroo will be our next captain, so that naturally makes you one of the most important people to the team! We're going to treat you well!" One of the third years spoke up enthusiastically. "Treat me well? Don't you guys have girlfriends as well? Why am I getting this special treatment?" I was genuinely confused.

"Don't mind these idiots, Kageyama Amber. They're just a bunch of excited teenagers fawning over a girl who plays volleyball and is coincidentally a girlfriend of a hotshot. Now, can we all carry on with practice?" Nekomata-sensei came up and explained to me. Oh... I see? We carried on with practice as usual. My receives were getting better and the team treated me normally. Well, as normal as they could be.

Kuroo kept coming over to check if I was alright, especially after I got smacked in the face sometimes. His concern was shocking to the rest of the team, but it wasn't a negative effect. The team and I bonded even closer now, thanks to Kuroo... I think?

Another week has passed, now the final week of January. Things have gotten more tight regarding work; activities have started again and I was called in for more updates with the team. I had to miss a couple of school days to be with my team when they were scouting the other areas.

We were expecting a large export from the school garden in mid-February from reports from the team. I was tasked to find out when and who would be involved.

That meant that I would need to step out of my comfort zone and finally dig into the gardening club. Mr Hoshiki, our principal, had also reported a new suspicious teacher in his staff, Mr Kaguri. He was showing similar symptoms as Mr Deki, but he was less pale and edgy. I was keeping a tab on Futashiki Leon as well.

During lunch breaks, I'd find Kuroo in his class, where I would have a clear view of his class in the opposite block. Futashiki Leon wasn't the brightest student nor a rebellious type. He was average in grades and always kept a standard circle of friends. These aspects would typically make him drop under the radar if I hadn't spotted him that night.

There weren't any clear symptoms that he had been abusing drugs himself, so it was assumed that he was merely a supplier. Thankfully, after the past month of tailing him, it was concluded that he wasn't outsourcing to people in this school but to neighboring schools instead.

"Earth to Amber," Kuroo sat down in front of me and waved his hand to get my attention back. I was sitting in his class, where I got a ton of weird stares, but Kenma was with me, so it makes it less weird.

"You've been staring in that direction for the past week. Something up?" He sipped on his packet of green tea. "Oh, yea, just work stuff. I promise I'll tell you about it when it's time, okay?" I told him and kissed his cheek.

"Of course, anytime you're ready," Kuroo ruffled my hair in response. His class has gotten used to us; when I first stepped in, most of the girls in the class didn't really like me. Guess I took their eye-candy away from them. Kuroo put his head down to sleep while Kenma was on his game console as usual.

I'll have to check out the gardening club myself later on. How would I go about it, though? I might have to break in at night. Kuroo was walking me home though, guess I'll have to make my way back again later on. Even though Kuroo and I have spent time together, they were just during our free time, like for dinners and walks home. Guilty that my work has taken up most of the time and he has volleyball practices, I think a date or two would be nice.

"Hey, Tetsurou," it felt weird calling his first name, but we started doing that a few days back. He grunted in response, with his face still in his folded arms on the table. "Want to go on a date this Saturday?" I suggested. "I do!" He immediately perked up, suddenly awake for the rest of the lunch period. I laughed at his enthusiasm and Kenma just rolled his eyes at him again.
