Normal POV
My ears were ringing. The sound of gunfire started to muffle in my eardrums. I stood rooted at my spot, eyes ahead at the low wall in front of me, expecting one or two to jump up from behind. But it never came. Or so I thought.
As I started to let my guard down, I retracted my pistol and fixed it back onto my side harness. My breath was shaky, but I felt calmer. The calm before the storm. This phrase flashed through my mind and reset every nerve in my body to be alert again.
"Get back!" Hyosuke's voice sharply rang out and abruptly pushed me out of the way. I spun my head around to face the low wall. Why? There was nothing there.
Suddenly, a pistol peeked out from the wall and fired randomly. Hyosuke-san and I flung ourselves out of the way. I managed to hide behind a box crate nearby but Hyosuke was still exposed. The next moment came in slow motion; a familiar face emerged from behind the wall.
He leveled his gun at Hyosuke and fired. An eerie ring resonated in the air as the bullet went through Hyosuke-san's left abdomen.
"Hyosuke-san!"
I shouted after him as he slumped to the ground, groaning in pain. I whipped out my pistol and leveled it at the man, Mr Deki. "Don't move, or I'll shoot," I threatened him. He turned towards me with bulging eyes; his irises were throbbing crazily.
He raised his gun again and shot at me. I dodged it as I rolled sideways, firing a shot at his chest. He awkwardly moved away and fired at me again. His bullet hit the tip of my gun, and it was flung out of my hands.
Shit, I cursed in my head. He tried to fire again but his gun clicked empty. Thank my lucky stars, or so I thought again. Before I could reach for my fallen gun, the maniac came at me, screaming slurred words. He's taken the drug!
He crashed into me, flinging me to the ground. I kicked him in his side, regaining my stand. My heart was beating rapidly, adrenaline pumping through my veins.
"I know you. You're the- the transferred girl. Ah- ah, I see now, you- you were the rat. I- I should've known, I s-spent more than ten years running this deal, it- it's all gone be-because of YOU!" He stuttered with his words and attacked me again.
Focus, Amber. Watch his moves, evade, dodge.
I managed to deflect some of his moves but he still got me in the ribs and my cheek. I staggered back, clutching my side. His movements are totally random and they were powerful. Was it because of the drugs?
I tasted blood in my mouth and I spat it out, rubbing my mouth clean. "Oh come on now, Mr Deki. Your life was over when you touched those drugs," I retorted and decided to go on the offense this time. He let out an angry scream, throwing punches and kicks.
I swung my arm at him, fast and low. He was falling behind, now's my chance. I raised my fist, ready for a final jab to his head to knock him out.
"Screw you!" He managed to grab onto my raised fist and called out. I brought my left arm up to try to hit him and he caught my other hand as well. His grasp tightened around my wrists as we both fought for dominance.
Shit, he's so much taller than me and much more powerful. I'm... I'm losing my footing. No, not yet. I tilted my head back and then threw my head at his. Pain erupted from my forehead as I head-butted him. He staggered back, as did I. My vision went black and static as I faintly saw him clutch his head as well.
The next moment, I was tackled to the ground, his hands around my neck. I gasped hard as he pressed on my air pipe, blocking my breathing. My lungs screamed for air as his grip tightened even further. My hands reached out to his face, desperately trying to claw him away.
