Brett had never seen anything so tiny in his life, something that looked so fragile like their oldest son Benjamin looked when they wheeled him into the room they had been given. He was in an incubator, and they couldn't touch him, but Brett didn't mind. He was terrified he'd accidentally crush him.
He truly had never seen anything tinier or more fragile. Not until they wheeled in Aiden after what felt like forever. Brett squeezed Eddy's hand hard, feeling his worry radiate. They were still monitoring them, still sticking needles in their tiny bodies and making sure they were okay, but they were both alive. Both were getting help with their breathing, but they were both breathing and that was the important part.
"They're so small," Eddy whispered, his voice failing him. He had his eyes glued to the view he had of Aiden, and it was obvious he was about tl break again.
"They're perfect," Brett responded softly, letting Eddy's hand go to place an arm around his waist. "They're wonderful. Bit small, yeah, but they're beautiful."
"You think so?" Eddy asked as if he couldn't believe it, tearing his gaze of his tiny youngest child and looking at his boyfriend instead. "You know you don't have to say that if you don't mean it, I know it's..."
"Eddy, it's my sons. They're wonderful no matter what," Brett interrupted, placing a careful kiss to the side of his mouth. "I love our boys."
"May I disturb for a second?" a lady with a nametag that indicated she was a doctor asked with a smile on her face. She didn't wait for a reply once ahe had their attention, though. Just stretched out her hand to shake tveir hands. "I'm doctor Lovelace, and I delivered these two beautiful boys. Congratulations on the twins."
They took turns shaking her hand, Eddy's gaze moving to the floor.
"Thank you," Brett said with a small smile. "How's Leonora?""Leonora is doing well. She's currently in recovery. As for the twins, both are stable for now. A bit bigger than we expected fot them being twins, but that's just good news."
"Bigger?" Eddy asked as if he had heard her wrong. "They're so tiny?"
"They're smaller than a full term baby, but big for thirty weeks," dr Lovelace smiled, looking over to them. "The prognosis for both of them loon good, but the youngest, Aidan was it? Well, he needs some extra follow up as his lungs weren't really strong enough yet."
"So they'll be okay?" Brett asked, squeezing Eddy slightly. It felt like a huge weight was lifted off his shoulders.
"It is looking good right now," dr Lovelace said with a smile. "Congratulations again."
"Thank you, doctor," Brett said, a smile widening on his lips now. Their boys would be okay, they were perfect and he couldn't wait to surprise his mom with pictures.
"They're gonna be okay," Eddy repeated, tears overflowing from joy now as he pulled Brett into a tight hug. He was practically shaking with relief at this point. Brett hugged him tightly back. "Fuck they're gonna be okay."
