"May!" Ray exclaimed upon seeing her, pretty much running from the door to her bed. He embraced her, and she clinged to him as a sob escaped.

"Where were you?" May asked, burying her face in his shoulder as she cried. Her hands gripped thd back of his shirt like her life depended on it.

"Oh angel, have nobody told you what happened?" Ray asked her, stroking her back. He didn’t know whether to say it was wonderful or scary.

...

Ray had barely gotten into the hospital, had barely stuttered out through his tears who he was there for before he was scurried away into a room. A room with no clock, and it had only been a minute or two before his vision was too blurred to see any clock anyway.

He had no idea how long he had been waiting in this room. It could be minutes, it could be hours and it'd be all the same to him. Every second, his worry grew. Why couldn't he see her? Was she okay?

His thoughts and pacing were interrupted by a doctor knocking on the door and peeking inside.

"Mr Chen?" she had asked, and he had nodded not being comforted by her calm, professional face at all.

The doctor said a lot of things. Something about a hemorrhage, some operation, her uterus. Then she got to the part that once said had made Ray black out.

"The good news are that both May and the baby are going to be okay."

...

"No way," May stuttered, shaking her head. She pulled back from the hug to look at him, trying to figure out if he was joking. "I wasn't pregnant. I didn't have a baby. No fucking way!"

Her words grew increasingly louder and more scared, her eyes widening.  Ray carefully took her hands, giving them a light squeeze.

"It's true, love. That's what was causing the pain and the bleeding and everything," Ray said, meeting her scared eyes.

May paused for a second, her scared eyes letting another few tears escape. Her lower lip was quivering and after a bit she turned her gaze down shamefully.

"I'm so sorry, Ray," she whispered shakily. "I should have known and... and I understand if... if this is it. If you don’t wanna see me or..."

"What? Nono, oh gosh no, May mine," Ray interrupted her, moving his hands to cup her face. "Hey hey hey, love, I'm not going anywhere. This is... it's a good thing. Not that you're hurt because of it, but..."

"It's a good thing?" May whispered, looking up at him again with tearful eyes. "Do you mean that? You know you don't have to say it just because..."

Ray placed a soft kiss to her lips in an attempt to stop her spiralling.
"It is good. Our little baby girl is a good thing, okay? She's wonderful."

May's heart beat faster upon learning this new fact.
"A girl?"

"The sweetest little babygirl anyone’s ever seen, my love," Ray said, a slight smile forming on his lips. "She's perfect."

"Can I see her?"
