I'll Be There For You [ Book 1 ]

Chapter 2

"Cody! Get the tanks down now!" Cody nodded.

"Copy that." He replied before calling out the order for the pilots to drop the tanks. The ships around him and the one he was in landed down on the ground and as the clones exited they were instantly met by firing blasters.

"General Kenobi don't land the zone is hot." Cody called into his comms, partly because it was his job and partly because he didn't want to see the Jedi get hurt.

"But there's nowhere else to go!" Kenobi's voice answered back to the worried clone. Cody was about to think of a reply when his General's voice came back over the comms "We're hit! We're going down!" Cody felt a stab of fear and looked up to the sky, and did indeed see the flaming sparks from the General's ship as it started to go down.

Cody was a good soldier however and pushed all feelings to the side, no matter how bad it hurt and worked on completing the mission and keeping his men alive. He flinched at the crash of his General's ship hit the ground. He knew his orders however and resisted the urge to run towards the ship, besides if he did he'd likely be shot down anyways.

He retreated back to be closer with all his men as the tanks around them came in to form a protective circle.

"Waxer! Boil! If you can, scout out for the General and survivors in the ship!" Cody yelled to the two clones, gesturing towards the ship. He watched as they saluted before sneaking out from the circle of tanks. He tore his gaze away from them to focus on making sure they weren't going to be overrun. He just hoped Rex and his General could get over to their position before they were overwhelmed.

He snapped to attention when he saw Waxer and Boil practically carrying the General back to their position. His heart fluttered in fear, seeing the injured form of the Jedi. He ran over to help the two troopers to bring him in and lean him down against some crates.

"General." Cody called, seeing if he'd get a reaction. The Jedi looked at him and smiled faintly.

"Well Cody you were right the zone is hot." He said with a shaky laugh that made Cody smile beneath his helmet.

"Now we're stuck counting on General Skywalker getting here." He said and the Jedi groaned.

"Well if that's the case we'll never get out of here." Kenobi replied with a pained laugh. Cody laughed as well.

"Have hope General, he might not disappoint you for once." Cody replied with a laugh and the Jedi smiled at him, making Cody's heart melt in his chest.

"Looks like you were right Cody." Kenobi said to the clone as they stood in the gunship that was taking them back to the star ship up in space.

"Pardon me General?" Cody asked, confused what he was talking about.

"Anakin didn't disappoint me for once, like you said earlier." Cody blushed beneath his helmet, surprised the Jedi had remembered his earlier words during the battle upon the surface of Geonosis.

"Oh, of course General." He replied and the injured Jedi smiled at him. Cody just melted at the look and sighed. Oh he had it bad for the Jedi.
