I'll Be There For You [ Book 1 ]

Chapter 5

Cody stood next to Rex in the gun ship as they made their way towards their next mission.

"What are we even doing for this Rex Ol' Boy?" Cody asked, turning to look at his closest friend.

"Duchess of Mandalor's had an assassination attempt and we're coming in to look for the culprit." Rex replied and Cody nodded. Cody already knew the mission, but he wanted to make sure Rex knew it considering his General didn't have the best track record of telling Rex everything he needed to know.

"Well this ought to be fun then." Cody joked, making Rex laugh lightly.

"I hope for our sake's it is."

Cody walked beside Rex as they made their way through the cargo hold of the ship, looking around for a sign of the assassin droid that tried to kill the Duchess. Cody couldn't help the small jealous he'd felt when he'd heard his General talking fondly about the Duchess.

"You alright Cody?" Rex asked, turning to look at him. He'd known Cody long enough to tell when he had something on his mind.

"Yeah just great Rex." Cody replied curtly.

"You don't sound great.."

"..Because I'm not." Cody replied with a sigh, stopping his walking to turn and fully look at Rex.

"What's wrong ol' friend?" Rex asked, stopping as well.

"I think I'm in love with my general." Cody mutted quietly.

"Really? I didn't have any idea." Rex replied and Cody nodded.

"Yeah well, I know he won't love me back so it's fine, but it just hurts you know?" Cody said, rambling. Rex didn't know how to respond, despite wanting to help his friend feel better. Suddenly they heard a scream and ran off to investigate, finding the assassin droid had killed one of Cody's men.

They both forgot about the earlier conversation as they set about looking around for the killer droid.

They had found the assassin droid and Obi Wan had taken down the person who'd been trying to kill the Duchess. Then the ship had been overtaken by battle droids which the clones had finally finished destroying. Cody watched in jealousy as his general talked with the Mandalorian Duchess.

"Kenobi, thank you for saving my life, however to do so with violence.." Satine begins.

"And yet, to have done nothing would have meant to let everyone on this ship die."

"I suppose it would be to much to ask of you to hold no violent ways." Cody turned away, unable to watch them anymore. It was obvious to him they had chemistry and that Kenobi still harbored some feelings towards the Duchess. He turned and walked away, Rex following him to go attempt to comfort his friend.

Cody sat alone in the mess hall of the ship, well past when everyone else had gone to sleep. He just couldn't sleep, thinking of how his General would much rather be with the Duchess than him.

"Cody? You're still up?" Cody looked up to find his General standing before him. He looked back down, heart hurting too much to really look at the Jedi.

"Yes sir." He mumbled quietly.

"Cody? What's wrong?" The Jedi asked, sitting down beside him, and Cody slid away from him, not wanting to touch up against him. The Jedi looked hurt. "Cody? You can talk to me." He said softly. The clone slowly looked over at him.

"I can't general, I can't."

"Why not?"

"Because you'll hate me if you know." Obi Wan shook his head and slowly slid closer to Cody.

"I could never hate you." Cody looked at the Jedi's face, overcome with emotion as he leaned in and placed a kiss against his lips. Obi Wan froze in shock, not expecting it and Cody quickly pulled away before standing to run away when he felt Obi Wan grab his arm. The clone turned to look as the Jedi pulled him in for another kiss, this time both of them melting into it and enjoying the moment together.
