Chapter 17

"I killed him, it should be impossible that he's back." Obi Wan ranted quietly as he paced the room while Cody silently watched him. "I cut him in half, I don't know how he possibly could have survived." Obi Wan had just come back from a council meeting where they'd shown him footage of Darth Maul calling for Obi Wan to come get him so Maul could have his revenge. Obi Wan continued to pace the room, murmuring about this all should have been impossible, that he was so sure that he'd killed him.

"Obi Wan. Obi Wan! OBI!" Cody called, finally getting his lovers attention.

"I'm sorry Cody it's just...he killed my master in front of me all those years ago and to hear that he's back."

"It's okay Obi, I'm here for you." Cody said softly, standing and walking over to his love before wrapping his arms around him. Obi wrapped his arms around Cody as well before a thought struck him.

"Oh force Cody, what if he gets you too." Obi whispered, holding the clone closer.

"Hey, I know you won't let him get me and besides to him I'd be nothing more than just a clone."

"You are so much more than 'just' a clone. You are not 'just' anything." Obi said softly before gently kissing Cody.

Obi Wan lead the way down towards the planets surface, reports of where Maul was located. He was anxious to see the old foe he'd long thought dead. The thought of seeing him again almost made him feel as though he were a padawan again, standing beside his master as they descended, yet when he turned his head he didn't see Qui Gon's smiling face above him but rather Cody's helmeted one below him. He felt both calmed and alarmed by Cody's presence, worried his commander would die, yet selfishly wanting him to always be close by.

"You're staring." Cody mumbled, turning his head to look at Obi Wan. The jedi took a moment to memorize the look of his helmet, worried it could be his last time seeing it. "Don't do that."

"Don't do what?"

"Look at me like you think one of us is going to die."

"Cody you don't know this sith like I do, it's a very high probability that-"

"No, don't talk like that." Obi Wan sighed, but he knew his love was right, he couldn't always assume one of them would die as they went into battle.

"Alright, alright. I love you."

"I know."

They landed on the planet's surface and Cody, along with the rest of the 212th followed Obi Wan into the burning city. In the middle of the carnage of flames, bodies and despair stood the two Zabrak brothers, Maul and Savage.

"Kenobi." Maul seethed, glaring down at the jedi.

"My Maul you look horrible, these past years have not been kind to you. I'd even say you look like half the man you used to be."

"How clever you are Kenobi, however it is time you die!" Maul hissed, lunging in to attack. Jedi and sith fought while the 212th shot at Savage who ripped through their ranks. Eventually Obi Wan got in enough of a good blow to Maul that the brothers called in a retreat and left. Obi wiped blood from his face as the clones examined their wounded. He saw Cody glancing between him and his brothers, torn. He smiled and gestured for his boyfriend to help his brothers. The clone smiled and blew him a kiss before helping take care of the wounded. Obi smiled before turning to watch Maul's ship as it became a distant speck, worried about the disaster the sith would bring.
