I'll Be There For You [ Book 1 ]

Chapter 11

"What?! You're lying!" Cody spat, his heart feeling as though it had stopped beating as the world around him seemed to slow to a stop.

"Cody please I'm sorry. The general and commander just came back and they'd witnessed the whole thing." Rex says, trying to calm his old friend down. Cody shook his head, his whole body starting to shake.

"You're lying! He said he'd come back! He told me he'd be back!"

"Cody please calm down, I'm so sorry."

"He said he loved me! He said he'd be back." Cody's whole body shook as he suddenly broke down in tears. Rex instantly pulled his friend into a hug. Cody wrapped his arms around Rex as he sobbed into his friends shoulder.

"It'll be okay Cody." Wolffe said awkwardly, not really very good with intense moments of emotions.

"No it won't be!" Cody sobbed.

"Cody, I'm sorry to have to tell you this but they're already having the funeral tonight." Wolffe said slowly as Cody sobbed louder, clutching Rex tighter.

"Do you want to go?" Rex asked softly as Cody shook then nodded his head. "We'll go with you and we can leave if it becomes too much okay?" Cody nodded as the commander and captain helped lead him to the jedi temple.

Technically the clones weren't normally allowed to attend jedi funerals, but seeing as how Cody was the highest ranked clone trooper and Wolffe talked Plo into letting them in, they were allowed to be there. Cody shook slightly as he watched the preceding, he couldn't bring himself to actually look at the body in the center of the room, it made his heart break and his chest constantly hurt with the dull ache of knowing he'd never see his love again.

"We're here for you Cody." Rex whispered and the commander nodded.

"Can we leave? I can't handle anymore." He asked quietly, tears nearly falling down his face again. Rex and Wolffe nodded and lead the other commander from the room quietly. Once outside Cody broke down in sobs again and this times latched himself onto Wolffe who was closest. Wolffe awkwardly hugged him back as Rex sadly watched his closest friend falling apart in front of him.

"My General and Commander are going to hunt down the person who did this." Rex said softly as Cody nodded.

"Who did it?" He asked between sobs.

"Rako Hardeen."

"I hope they find him and kill that bastard."
