I opened my door and tried to suppress the anger that was building. Bella had a right to know what her stupidity was causing.

“Chloe.”

I turned around, Alice hadn’t gone back inside with the others. She was staring at me, almost as if she was waiting for permission to speak. “What?”

“You didn’t go home when you left, did you?” She asked.

“No, I didn’t.” I sighed, “what do you want Alice?”

“Where did you go?” She asked. “I know Edward thinks he knows but he won’t say. Carlisle thinks you just needed to get away from everything.”

“You must hate that you couldn’t see me leaving or returning. But I bet not knowing what I’m going to do next is even worse.” I was silent for a moment. “Bella needs to know, Alice. I know we have our differences and I know you don’t like me very much, but I have to tell her.”

“I agree, Bella needs to know, but she can have one night of piece.” Alice took a few steps towards the house. “I’ll make sure you can talk to her tomorrow.”

I nodded, “thank you.” I looked towards my car then back to Alice. “Have you seen what will happen? Will Bella survive?”

“The future is uncertain,” Alice said. “I’ve seen several possible futures; our choices will determine what happens.” She stopped inches from the front door and looked back at me, “but in every vision I see Bella with her hands around your neck and you have blood on your head.”

“So she’ll be alive enough to try to kill me,” I said. “Great.”

“Despite what you think, it doesn’t make me happy. I don’t blame you for what happened with Jasper. He’s hard to resist.” Alice opened the door, “have a good night, Chloe.”

I waved bye before sliding into my car and heading back to La Push.

I pulled into the drive way of the beach house I rented almost two hours after I left the Cullens’. The drive gave me time to digest what Alice had told me and I hoped Jake had better luck than I had. The good news was Bella would survive, but that didn’t mean she would still be human. Human Bella would never try to kill me, but vampire Bella? From what I learned from Aro newly turned vampires only thought about feeding. From what Alice saw it sounds like I could be first on the menu. I trudged up the flight of stairs to the doors and was regretting inviting Jake, Seth, and Leah over. Right now all I wanted was food and to sleep. Maybe I’d wake up and find out that today had been a dream.

I reached the door and turned the knob, it was unlocked. I know I locked the door before I left. I slowly pushed the door open and I reached for the pepper spray in my purse.

“I was beginning to wonder if you’d ever be back,” Jake said as he appeared. He was holding a slice of pizza in one hand and a beer in the other.

“You’re not twenty one,” I said as I pushed the door closed.
