“Chloe, Chloe, come on, open your eyes.” I knew that voice. Someone was shaking me. Jacob. I opened my eyes, coughing, what happened came flooding back. I sat up quickly looking around, I was on the beach, and Jacob was staring at me. He actually looked concerned. There were two boys standing behind him. The woman was gone…so was Jacob’s shirt. It must be a boy thing.
“Are you ok?” Jacob asked, he brushed my cheek with his fingers. I winced; the twig must have cut me. I was soaking wet, freeze, and cut but I was alive.
“Yeah, I’m ok.” I stared at Jacob for a moment, he was wet. He must have pulled me out of the water. He grabbed my good arm and pulled me to my feet. Carlisle was not going to be happy that I got my cast wet.
“Good, then maybe you can explain what possessed you to jump off the cliff? Do you have a death wish?”
I looked from him to the other boys. “I…I thought it might be fun, Bella told me about cliff diving.” I lied. They seemed to visibly tense at the mention of Bella.
“Fun? You are crazy.” Jacob grabbed my hand and looked at the cut. His expression instantly changed. “I can clean this back at the house.” He turned to the two boys who were staring at me. “Tell Sam I’ll see him later.” They nodded and walked into the forest. How was Sam? Who were they?
I followed Jacob back to his house, in complete silence. He didn’t even look at me. We found a note from Billy when we got back, he had gone to Charlie’s with, I couldn’t read the name, to watch the game. They were going fishing in the morning so Billy would be back tomorrow and dinner was in the fridge. I wondered how Billy could go fishing, considering he was in wheelchair. But that didn’t bother me nearly as much as the fact that I had to spend the rest of the day and most of tomorrow with Jacob.
“Great,” he mumbled. Apparently he felt the same way. He grabbed a first aid kit and a wash cloth. “Go sit on the couch.” He ordered, wetting the cloth. I wordlessly did what I was told. If I was going to spend the rest of the day stuck with him I would have to be civil. I leaned back into the couch and carefully pulled my wet hoodie off. The cold water seemed to make the cut on my shoulder hurt even more and the bruise on my arm was more obvious now. I looked up; Jacob was standing in front of me, his eyes locked on the bruise.
“Can I change first?” I asked, standing up. The top of my head barely came to his chin.
“Yeah, sure.” He handed me the wash cloth. “Try to wipe the blood off.”
I managed to change into sweats and a t-shirt without too much trouble. But it still hurt, everything hurt. I stared into the mirror, the person looking back didn’t look like me. She looked scared, tired, and a little too thin. Why was this happening to me? What did the woman mean about not being after Bella? I took a deep breath and walked back to the living room. I needed answers and Jacob was going to give them to me.
