I stepped back, letting a few inches of water separate us. He reached out and touched my arm, his eyes on mine. I stepped back, towards the waterfall. He followed. I stopped right in front of it, a smile spread across my face.
“Kiss me,” I breathed.
He was to me in an instant, his lips on mine. I stepped back, under the water fall, pulling him with me. The warm water covered me as I pulled his cold body against mine. We fit together perfectly, as if we belonged together. I twisted my fingers into his hair, pulling him closer. I felt his cold hands jerk me shirt, then I heard fabric ripping as he tore my shirt off. His hands covered my back, pulling me even closer. His lips separated from mine as he kissed down my neck. I rolled my head back, knowing this was dangerous but enjoying myself to much to stop. I felt his teeth scrape my neck. His hand were gone.
I opened my eyes, he was out of the water, staring at me.
“Jasper,” I walked towards him, still in the water. “What’s wrong?”
“Chloe, don’t, don’t come any closer.”
“Why? What’s going on?”
He looked down at his hands for a moment then to me. “I thought I had it under control. But being so close to you.”
“What?” I stepped out of the water. “Jasper? What’s wrong? Tell me, please.”
“Its your blood.” He replied, quietly. “It calls to me, beckoning me to have a taste.”
I stared at him. “I thought that you only fed on animals.”
“I do, but sometimes it is hard to resist. I’m not as old as the others, its harder for me.”
“But you can resist, right?” I asked.
“Yes,” he smiled.
“So there isn’t anything to worry about?” I asked.
“No, its just hard sometimes.” He took my hand. “I would never, ever bite you. It would be over if I did.”
“What would be over?”
“Everything.” He said quietly. “Everything would be over.”
“Don’t worry,” I stepped closer, pulling him into a hug.
“Sorry about your shirt,” he whispered.
“I have more.”
I stepped back after a minute and looked up at him. “Can I ask you something?”
“Sure, anything.”
“How much do you know about Aro?”
“Not very much.” He frowned. “Why?”
“Just curious.”
“I can tell when you’re lying.”
“This is going to sound crazy.” I looked down at our hands then back at him. “I think I met Aro years ago in Italy.”
Jasper tensed, “why do you think that?”
“I remember it.” I sat down, sticking my legs into the water. “The first time I passed out was in Italy with my parents. I was ten. There was a man there, he talked to me but I didn’t remember until today.”
“That’s why you reacted when you first saw the painting Carlisle has. You recognized Aro.”
“Yes, but I didn’t know from where.” Jasper sat down beside me. “Aro said that I looked like my mother.” I looked over at Jasper. “Could he know my mother?”
“Where is your birth mother from?” He asked
“Was. She’s dead, and I don’t know. My parents never told me, all I have is a picture of me as a baby.”
“Can I see it?”
“Yeah,” I grabbed my phone. “I have a copy on my phone.” I searched my gallery until I found it. “Here.” I handed him the phone. It was a picture of a nun holding a screaming baby. She was standing in front of a stone church, it looked very old. There was another stone building beside the church.
“That’s in Volterra.” He stared at the picture for a minute then looked at me. “That is where the Volturi live.”
“What?” I asked in disbelief. “Then Aro could have known my mother.”
“Chloe, the only humans Aro knows are the ones he kills.”
“But what if he did know her, some how.”
He took my hand. “Promise me you will drop this. He’s dangerous, Chloe.”
“Don’t worry, I’m going to fly to Italy and ask if he knew my parents. I’m not completely crazy.” I smiled. “Besides, why would I want to go back to Italy? That’s where my passing out started.”
He smiled, “right. We should probably head back. Charlie will be home soon.”
I sighed, “yeah, you’re right.” I stood up and grabbed my pants, pulling them back on.
“Chloe,” he was standing in front of me, holding his shirt.
“You need it more than I do,” I said. “You’re the one that sparkles.”
He rolled his eyes, “you’ll get cold.”
“Don’t worry about me.” I grinned. “But you could carry me back.”
He laughed, “I had planned to.” I jumped on his back, pressing my lips to his neck.
I opened my eyes a few minutes later. We were in my room. My feet touched the ground and I looked up at him, smiling. “We should do this again.”
“I’d like that.” He touched my cheek. “You really are special Chloe, so incredibly special.”
“So are you.” I grinned. “See you tomorrow?”
“Yeah,” he said. “I still need to teach you how to fight and how to avoid any rocks that might come towards your head.”
“Because flying rocks are so dangerous,” I said.
“They could be.” He stepped back. “See you tomorrow.”
He was gone before I could say bye. I sat down on my bed and looked at the picture. I was born in the same city that the Volturi lived in. Had Aro known my mother? If he had that still didn’t explain why I had passes out when I met him. Maybe I was allergic to vampires or something. But that didn’t make any sense either. I sighed and flopped back on my bed. I smile spreading across my face as I thought about Jasper.
