I followed Jake to the edge of the water and instantly realized this was a bad idea when the water covered me feet. "I'm going to get frostbite."
Jake shot me a grin and reached for my hand. "We need to start climbing," he said when we reached the cliff. "Stay close. It'll hurt if you fall."
I watched as Jake clung to the cliff and started making his way up, stepping from rock to rock. We climbed in silence for a few moments before we reached a ledge.
"This is it," Jake said. "You freezing," he said before pulling me to his side.
"Just a little," I said, trying not to shiver. "Normaly I would have more clothes on."
Jake chuckled, "true. But it's easier with less clothes."
"I'm sure you tell all the girls that," I said as a pulled away.
"Why do you keep doing that?" He asked.
I frowned as I looked down at the water. "Doing what?"
"Pushing me away," he sighed. "Chloe, I can feel you putting a wall up. What are you so afraid of?"
I watched the waves crash over the rocks below. "What will you do if Bella is turned?" I asked after a moment.
"We're not talking about Bella," Jake said as he joined me at the edge.
"Tell me," I said as I looked over at him. "We both know if anything happens to Bella we'll have to pick sides. Vampires or wearwolves." I stepped closer to the edge. "Or run."
"Would you run?" He covered my cold hand with his warm one. "If I asked you to leave with me, would you?"
"No," I said honestly.
"Because you want to keep everyone safe," he said after a minute.
I looked down at our hands. I could have left weeks ago but I didn't. I could have left as soon as Bella returned, but I stayed. I stayed because if there was a war I wanted to be right here, in the middle of it. "Are we jumping or not?" I asked after a moment.
"Chloe."
I felt his breath on my cheek as I looked up. He wanted to kiss me, I could see it in his eyes. I grinned and jumped.
The icy water hit me like a tank. I struggled to the surface, coughing. I took a few breaths as I looked for Jake. He was a few feet away, heading towards the shore. I pushed the hair out of my eyes and followed.
"That was way colder than I thought it would be," I said as my feet touched sand.
"Get your clothes," Jake whispered. "Now."
"What's wrong?" I asked as I pulled my shirt on.
"Someone's coming," he said as he grabbed his clothes.
"I don't see anyone, are you sure?" I asked as I jerked my jeans up.
Jake nodded, "stay behind me."
I rolled my eyes but stepped behind him. I could see the muscles in his shoulders tense. Whoever was coming was getting close. He suddenly relaxed.
"Jake," Seth said as he stepped out of the trees. "Oh, hi Chloe. Am I interrupting?"
"No," I said quickly. "I was just about to go back to the house."
"You don't have to go," Jake said as he reached for my arm. "Seth, do you need something?"
"It's Sam, he uh...he made a decision," Seth said as dug his shoe into the sand.
"That good, huh?" I asked.
