I pushed my way through the crowd and opened the front door. I glanced behind me as I stepped outside, Jasper was watching me. I smiled faintly and closed the door behind me, heading to my car. I saw a piece of paper stuck under my windshield wiper. I grabbed it as soon as I could reach it. I read it quickly. It was from Jake, he insisted that we needed to talk and he wanted me to call him. I crumpled it up and threw it into the back of my car. I was done talking to him.
I woke up early the next morning and quietly went down stairs. Bella was still sleeping and Charlie had already left for work. It seemed like he was never home. I walked into the kitchen as I rubbed sleep out of my eyes.
“Chloe.” I jumped, Jake was sitting at the kitchen table.
“How’d you get in here?” I demanded, whishing I had changed out of my pajamas before coming down stairs.
“Charlie let me in,” he stood up. “Cute jammies,” he smirked. “We need to talk.”
“I have nothing to say to you.”
“Chloe, please, can’t we just try to work things out?”
I sighed, “I can’t trust you Jake. You’ve lied to me to many times.”
“I’m sorry,” he looked down then back at me. “I don’t know what else to say. I know there is nothing I can say to make things right.”
“You’re right, there isn’t.” I brushed past him and opened the fridge.
“Chloe,” his hand brushed my arm.
“Don’t,” I said quietly, not looking at him.
“Why not?” he breathed on my neck.
I turned to face him, my back against the fridge. “We’re done Jake, there isn’t anything you can do to change that.”
“I don’t believe you,” he ran his hand down my arm. “You want me Chloe, we both know it.” He leaned closer, his face only inches from mine, I could feel his breath on my face. “You’re forcing yourself not to kiss me.” He pressed his body against mine, “just give in. You know you want to.”
I swallowed, “you’re right. I should just give in.” I slid my hands up his chest to his shoulders. I jerked my leg up, kneeing him in the crotch. He stumbled back, gasping with pain. “I’ve been wanting to do that for weeks.” I leaned closer so I could look him in the eye. “Get the hell out of this house, and don’t you ever touch me again.” Jake glared at me for a minute before he walked out the door, wincing with every step.
“That was amazing,” I looked up, Bella was standing at the bottom of the steps. “I didn’t think you had it in you.”
“Yeah, well,” I looked away.
“You don’t have to explain, I’m sure he deserved it.”
I forced a smile, “he did.” I felt my phone vibrating in my pocket, I pulled it out and didn’t recognize the number. “Hello,” I said as I answered it and walked out of the kitchen.
“Chloe, hi, it’s Jasper.”
I stepped into the back yard and closed the door behind me. “Hi, what’s up?”
“I’ve been thinking about what you said yesterday and if you still want to learn how to protect yourself we can start today.”
“Really? That’s great. What made you change your mind? You didn’t seem to think it was a good idea.”
