I spent the next few weeks either in my hotel room in Forks or walking on the beach in La Push. I had been actively avoiding Jasper, which included not going out of my hotel room except to go to my car and not answering my phone. I had also manage to not see Jake at all, not that I had been avoiding him. It felt like he was avoiding me, not that I blame him. I had seen Seth and Leah a few times. They told me that things were pretty bad with Jake after I left. But I think it had more to do with Bella getting married than it did with me leaving.

I was at the beach again, walking the same mile I had been walking every day for the past few weeks.

“Want some company?” Jake asked. He was standing a few feet away.

“Sure,” I said, giving him a smile. We walk in silence for a few minutes before I stopped and touched his arm, forcing him to stop. “How are you?” I asked after a minute.

“Fine,” he said quickly. “Why wouldn’t I be?”

“Bella married Edward and you’re fine?” I shook my head. “I wouldn’t be fine if the person I loved married someone else.”

“I don’t love Bella, Chloe. I haven’t for a long time.” He looked away then back at me. “Things changed while you were gone.”

“I heard you left,” I said. “Leah didn’t think you’d come back.”

“So you’ve been talking to Leah. What else did she say? That I left because of Bella?” He asked.

“She may have hinted at that,” I said.

Jake rolled his eyes. “Bella wasn’t the one who left.”

I stared at him. He left because of me. He ran away because of me. “Jake, I’m”

“Don’t, Chloe. Just don’t. I don’t want to hear you say your sorry again.”

“But I am. I am so sorry.” I looked down then back at him. “Where did you go?”

“Where did you?” He asked, ignoring my question.

I opened my mouth to tell him another lie but I was saved from it when I saw Seth walking towards us. He looked concerned.

“They’re back,” he said simply. “They want to see both of you, now.”

“Back? They weren’t supposed to be back yet.” I said. “Why do they want to see us? What’s wrong?”

“He did it.” Jake seethed. “He turned her.”

“What? No, he wouldn’t have. Not yet.” I insisted. “Lets go, I’ll drive.” I could hear Jake and Seth behind me as I walked towards my car. Edward couldn’t have turned her, not yet.

The drive back to Forks was silent. I wanted to say something but I couldn’t think of what. Jake stared out of the window, not looking at me. He wasn’t over her, no matter what he said. He wasn’t. I pulled into the Cullen’s drive way and looked at the house. I had hoped the after the wedding I would never be back, but here I was. I parked and stepped out of the car, not looking back as I headed towards the door. Edward opened it before I knocked. He looked worried, very worried.

“Come in,” he said. He stared at me for a minute, like he wanted to ask me something but was trying to decide if he should.

I walk in heading towards the living room. I stepped in and froze, I felt Jake stop beside me. Bella was laying on the couch.

“What happened?” I asked quietly. Bella looked horrible, like she could die at any moment.

“Chloe,” she forced a smile. “Thanks for coming.”

I walked closer and sat beside her. “Are you sick?” Edward had not turned her, I was sure of that.

“No,” she glanced at Edward then back at me. “I’m pregnant.”

I stared at her for a minute, trying to process what she said. “Pregnant?” My eyes drifted to her belly. “You’re pregnant. How is that possible?”

“We don’t know,” Carlisle said from the other side of the room. “But she is.”

I looked back at Bella. She was pregnant with a half human half vampire child. I could feel Jake behind me. I stood up slowly so he could sit. I was going to be sick, this would kill her. “I’ll be right back.” I told Bella, forcing a smile but I don’t think she even noticed me leave as Jake started talking to her.

I stepped outside, into the back yard. I heard the door open behind me.

“Chloe.”

I turned around, it was Edward. I assumed it would have been Jasper. “What are you going to do?” I asked.

“I don’t know.” He admitted. He looked as terrified as I felt.

“You have to do something, it will kill her.” I insisted.

“I know, but she isn’t listening to reason.” He looked down for a minute then back at me. “You could help.”

“How?”

“It will drink blood. If you could…”

“No,” I said, stopping him before he asked. “No, Edward. Bella would never forgive me and you don’t know what it would do to her.”

“Chloe, please.” He begged. “She’ll die.”

“I’m sorry, Edward. I am,” I said. “But I can’t do that, I wont.”

“Chloe,” Jake had stepped outside. How much had he heard? “Bella is resting, we should go. We’ll come back later.”

I nodded and walked past Edward. I could feel him watching me as I headed to my car. I couldn’t do that. I couldn’t give him my blood. It could kill Bella and they would all know, if they didn’t already. Bella would know. I took a deep breath and opened my car door. I needed to stay away. If Edward ended up turning Bella or if the baby was born I had to stay away. I would be a danger to all of them.

I drove back to La Push, it was silent again. I dropped Seth off and headed to Jake’s.

“What was Edward talking about?” Jake said as I parked at his house. “Why did he want your blood for Bella?”
