I could here the music pounding as soon as I turned down the Cullen’s drive way. I parked and stared at the house for a minute, it was full of people. At least half the graduation class was here. I put on the earrings my parents had given me and took off my graduation gown. I stepped out of my car and walked towards the house, pretending that I was happy to be here.
I pushed the door open and stopped, the hall was crowded with people from my school, most of them I had never even talked to.
“Chloe,” Alice was walking towards me. “You look fantastic.”
I smiled, that was probably the first genuinely nice thing she had ever said to me. “Thanks Alice, so do you.”
“Jasper was looking for you, I think he wanted to finish the tour.”
“Ok,” I would have to find him, which would be difficult with this many people.
“I’ll talk to you later,” Alice said before she disappeared into the crowd. I headed toward the kitchen, at least I hoped I was heading towards the kitchen. With all of these people it was hard to tell if I was going the right way. I pushed my way through a group of students and stepped into the kitchen. I grabbed a drink off the counter and looked back into the living room. It looked like everyone was here. Wasn’t anyone having their own party?
“Chloe,” I turned.
“Jasper,” I smiled, “hi, how are you?”
He closed the door to the porch behind him as he stepped into the kitchen. “I’m good, celebrating being done with high school.”
I smiled, “its some party.”
He nodded, “yeah, Alice planned it.”
“So how about the rest of the tour?”
He smiled, “sure, follow me.”
He took my hand and lead me through the crowd and up the steps. I followed him down the hall and stopped at Carlisle’s office.
“This is where the tour stopped.” He looked at me for a minute then opened the door. I stepped inside, instantly looking at the painting I had seen the last time I was in here.
“I guess you know that’s Carlisle,” he said from behind me.
I nodded, “I figured that, who are the others?”
Jasper leaned against the desk. “The Volturi, the ruling vampires. The one with dark hair is Aro, he’s the leader. Very old. Very powerful.” I looked back at the painting, staring at Aro, ignoring the rest of what Jasper said. “We have to go,” he said a few minutes later.
“Why? Is something wrong?”
“Jake’s here.”
“Jake?” I felt sick. “He’s here?”
“We have to go downstairs,” Jasper said, walking out into the hall. I followed him out the door and halfway down the stairs. I stopped and stared at Jake, he was talking to Bella. I couldn’t tell what he was saying but Bella did not look happy with him and he was not alone. I recognized the guys with him from the bonfire. I saw Alice walk out of the crowd towards Bella, she suddenly stopped. Then just as suddenly she looked up at us and disappeared back into the crowd and headed towards the kitchen. Jasper sprinted the rest of the way down the stairs and followed Alice. I followed him, grabbing Bella’s arm as I passed her and ignored Jacob. I could feel Bella behind me as I stepped into the kitchen. Jasper, Alice, Edward, Emmet, Carlisle, and Rosalie were already there.
“What’s the dog doing here?” Edward demanded. I turned and noticed Jake, he had followed Bella and his friends had followed him. The kitchen was getting very crowded.
