Chapter 20

I opened my eyes a few hours later and looked around, it was still dark outside, it was probably close to three A.M. I crawled out of bed and walked over to my open window and looked out. It was pitch black, there weren’t even any stars. I stepped back and closed the window, feeling a little cold.

“Chloe.”

I jumped, spinning around. “Jasper.” I turned the lamp beside my bed on. He was leaning against the wall, watching me. “What are you doing here?”

He stepped away from the wall. “I needed to see you, to make sure you were ok.”

I sat on the edge of my bed. “I’m as good as I can be.”

He walked closer and sat beside me. “You’re going to be safe Chloe. She wont hurt you.”

I nodded, “but what if she gets away and comes after me again? What if she has someone else come after me?”

He sighed, “she wont get away, Chloe, I promise.”

I looked down, “you can’t keep protecting me, I leave in two weeks.”

“Chloe, look at me,” he insisted. “Look at me,” his cold hand touched my cheek, forcing me to face him. “You will be safe, no one is going to hurt you.”

“Why do you care so much?”

“You’re special,” he brushed his thumb across my cheek. “I would do anything to keep you safe, anything.”

“I’m no that special. You have to keep Bella safe.”

“Edward will keep her safe, I’ll keep you safe.”

I looked down then back at him, “you shouldn’t be here,” I said quietly.

“I know, but I couldn’t stay away.” He half smiled, “I tried.”

“You should try harder next time,” I whispered.

“I’ll try,” he leaned closer and brushed his lips against my cheek. “I’ll see you later.” He stood up and walked over to the window. “Chloe, can you do me a favor?”

“Sure, what?”

“Don’t wear your yoga pants to training again.”

I frowned, “why?”

He grinned, “I wont be able to keep my hands to myself.”

I rolled my eyes. “I don’t think Alice would like that very much.” I stood up and walked towards him. “She’d probably help Victoria kill me.”

Jasper laughed, making his eyes sparkle. “Don’t worry about Alice.”

“Whatever, you should go before you get in trouble.”

“With who?” He grinned. “You or Alice?”

“Both.” I pushed him towards the window. “By, Jasper.”

“Bye,” he turned and hopped out the window, disappearing into the night. I needed to be more careful, I couldn’t let myself fall for Jasper. He was with Alive and would be for all eternity.

I stared out the window until the sun came up. I didn’t belong here any more, it was time for me to go home. Back where I belonged. A few hours later I changed and walked down stairs. Jasper was going to start training everyone today to fight the newborns. I had to be there. Jake would be there too. I had to fix things between us. Even if I do it right before I step on the plane to go home. I grabbed my jacket and walked outside to my car. Bella had left me directions on how to get to the training spot.
