Finn was fidgeting in his sit which made me realise that it was probably because he was feeling embarrassed.
"Vee you know that night I was drunk and I can't even remember everything properly," Finn began to say.
So that was it?
"Finn it's alright. Don't worry about it. Shit happens," I uttered what seemed to be the best thing to say.
In all truthfulness, I was not comfortable too. I mean, how does one handle such situations?
"It's best that we forget that happened," Finn added. He almost sounded distressed.
"Yeah it's for the best," I mentioned."I hear that Jason and you are dating," he stated. Finn was not even looking at me while he spoke and I was afraid that our once intimate bond would not be the same.
"Uh huh we are," I said unable to think of something else.
"So you drove all the way to say this?" I joked after a while with a complete change in my tone. I was not familiar with the situation I was in and changing the topic to a more humourous one seemed like the appropriate thing to do.
"No actually there's more," Finn said. For the first time since he came, Finn looked at me.
"Dad's getting married," he stated while heaving a huge sigh.
"After I heard this that night, I drank too much and you know," he said.
"With the same woman he is was in a relationship with?" I asked.
"Yeah. She is also a divorced woman. Apparently they have been together for a year now," Finn said just as I put my hand on his shoulder to let him know that he was not alone."Well she seemed nice," I said. Hearing my words Finn snorted as if to say that it was not the truth.
"Nice. She's the opposite of nice if anything," he said.
"Did you meet her?" I inquired
"I met her once and she was like the typical cruel stepmother you find in fairytales lile Cinderella," Finn added."Oh Finn. I'm so sorry," I said.
I knew what adversary Finn was going through. All those days back when I had heard that I would be living with complete strangers I somewhat went through the same thing. It was a little easier for me though because Livia seemed to be the nicest person and before long Jason was welcoming too.
"So when's the wedding?" I asked Finn after a while.
"Sometime soon I guess," he replied with annoyance."Dad has changed you know. Now, all he talks about is money and his assets and more money and its sources. On top of that, the woman he's in love with is obsessed with money as well," he sighed.
"Our house will become a money making factory once they get married," Finn added.
"You will eventually leave for university after next year," I said trying to console him.
"That's a good thing provided that I can go study far away from theese gold diggers," Finn said in such a way that it made me chuckle.
"Sorry I did not mean to be rude," I added but by then even Finn began to smile."You know at times I envy you Vee," Finn said with humour.
"Me? Why?" I interrogated.
"Because even though you did not have the proper family, the one you had was the best," Finn said."Reese was always there for you before and now you have Livia who is equally loving. Not to mention Jason," Finn added.
If only he knew. According to him, the family that I had was the best. Well, for one family did not lie to each other.
"Sure," I simply added while smiling at him.
"Anyways I should get going. See you tomorrow at school," Finn said before getting up.
I accompanied Finn out of the door to his car. He hugged me once more before leaving.
As Finn went I saw the post box which was open at that time. That was queer provided that nonody send anything by post.
I went near the post box to see that there was an envelope. Surprisingly enough it was addressed to me. The previous time I had got such a letter, it was from Reese. Last time I was all astounded and emotional after I had got it. On the contrary, at the present, I could give a shit less.
The address from which it was send was not written which only testimoied that it was from Reese. That and the fact that it was the twenty-first century and nobody I knew contacted me with good old hand written letters.
As I entered the house, with the Lett in my hand, I heard Jason from the kitchen.
"So he came to say sorry?" Jason asked as I went near him.
"Sort off," I replied."His father is getting married," I stated.
"Oh," Jason simply said."Anyways where's Livia? She's never this late," I added which made Jason look up at me.
"In the evening, said that she had some emergency. Mom will probably come home within sometime," Jason added. We made ourselves dinner and ate it too because both of us were famished and Livia we did not know when Livia would arrive.
Just as we were finishing eating, Livia however called Jason.
"You okay?" Jason asked with concern as he heard Livia's voice from the other side of the phone. As Jason heard Livia, his expression changed completely.
What was going on?
I was able to hear what Livia was saying too because the phone was kept on speaker. Livia somehow seemed stressed put about something. Was it because of work only?
Knowing that I was overthinking it, I finished my food. Subsequently, Jason and I cleared up the table.
"Ugh why does Monday come so fast?" Jason exclaimed as we were about to go up to our rooms.
"If only we could skip school tomorrow," I added not knowing what the future held.It should have been the usual mundane routine afterwards. However, as I opened the envelope I knew that a very dark day dawned upon us.
