Athena couldn't remember exactly when or how she woke up, but she did know one thing for certain: she was lucky to be alive. Turning cautiously around to absorb her setting, she could see small fires flickering and dancing all around, reminding her that the memories of the dramatic arena-destroying finale of the Quarter Quell were still permanently imprinted, albeit hidden, in her mind. Mutational bodies lay lifelessly all around, and adding to that, torn up pieces of soldier uniform were dotted around them, seemingly being the memorial of the bravery shown from The Star Squad.

That's when it hit her.

Athena Odair, the most determined victor in Squad 451, had been abandoned and thought dead.

Finnick thought she was dead.

Tears flooded through her deep green eyes as she winced, knowing what she was about to see if she was to look down. Making the mistake of doing so, Athena cried out as she saw the lifeless eyes of Caspian staring back up at her; the silent plead for her to save him still remaining. But she had been too late, and she was now suffering the consequences of his death.

Guilt of survival was the next emotion to flood through her conscience. The last thing she witnessed, before the ferocious cloud of colours engulfed her vision, was Caspian's hand helplessly and weakly falling out of her hold. The pure terror in his eyes when he plunged into the explosion, and down onto the floor.

The last thing she heard, before the petrifying boom of the detonation overcame her hearing, was Caspian's paralysed scream of trepidation as he met Death. His end made him appear weak and powerless. But that wasn't Caspian.

When Athena escaped from the frightfulness of the sewers, she would claim the much-needed revenge for his death. She would live, just like he always wanted her to.

When she finally wiped her mournful tears away, she took one last look at Caspian, closed his eyes, and gave him a kiss on the forehead to ratify the peace he deserved to live in the afterlife. She wasn't expecting him to awaken, like an old tale about a princess her mother used to read in her early years, but it was the least Athena could do. The woman wished she could do more; Caspian was the one person who supported her and stayed loyal in all her years as victor. But then again, war doesn't do sentimentality.

"Goodbye Caspian Ashel, I'm sorry I couldn't save you. But you're in a better place now." She whispered remorsefully, and then set off to depart from the place where she came to face death, yet again. Then she climbed up the metal rungs of the fateful ladder, wincing at one particular memory she had of Caspian, set just before her wedding.

'And you've probably been told this by Effie already, but the fact still remains, all of Thirteen are so proud of you. Probably in different ways, but you definitely are entitled to an accomplished and successful life after this, and I'll be behind you every step of the way. I'd sacrifice myself for you to have that promising future you need, if I had to.' He had said.
