The sirens wailed throughout District 13 as its citizens urgently stopped everything to rush to their safety. An artificial voice made itself clear to calm the hurried people and direct them to the bunker deep underground.

Katniss Everdeen turned away in anger from the District's command and the important leaders it held, and followed the loud instructions, blending in with everyone else. She was furious about the fact that no one was making advances on saving the three unsafe victors in the Capitol, and with the absence of Peeta, there wasn't much left to live for. But there were the now-deceased faces of District 8's wounded, who were reminded of the remnants Athena left after she was taken to the arena, all from the Mockingjay. There was her family. And there was the possibility of a better future.

Once she passed into the cafeteria, the distressed girl couldn't help but yell Primrose's name in hopes to find her whereabouts, but the girl heard nothing. She did the same along the corridor leading to the stairwell, but still no answers. Soon, the torturous sirens washed over her worry temporarily, and pushed Katniss to follow the others, cascading down the steep staircases.

The first bomb hit when the girl was at the thirty-fifth level, causing the little light they had to fizzle out and leave them into darkness. Her near-blindness only panicked the girl even more, and when the cold entrance of the water system occurred, Katniss was trampled over by the footfalls of the other residents.

The mockingjay was forced to fall onto the hard metal of a step and curl up to wait for something to happen. However the small levels of kindness the underground place held decided to shine through when a stranger helped Katniss up and guided her to safety.

What once were excruciating sirens morphed into relieved chatter when the pair arrived into the bunker, naturally calming the harsh reality of the current bombing. Beds were placed all around the bunker in a calculated way, with numbers above them to give everyone a place to reside. Katniss looked everywhere for Prim until she found her bunk, with only her emotionless mother neatly sat on the edge: her sister still absent.

"Mom! Where's Prim?" Katniss apprehensively enquired.

"I thought she went to find you!" Her mother replied, her daughter's contagious distress flooding onto her own face as the realisation kicked in. "She must still be on the stairs." The older woman reassured.

"There's no one on the stairs!" Katniss shot down with fury, but then memories of a certain ginger animal entered her thoughts. "She went back for the cat." She whispered, hints of exasperation coming through.

Mrs Everdeen just stood frozen as she watched her other daughter return to the blast doors of their bunker. Exaggerated potentialities rushed around her mind, stabbing each cell and telling them that the woman would be left completely alone after these events unfurled.

Katniss stared upwards into the cylindrical shape of the stairwell, exhaustedly shouting her sister's name for another time, but being met with easement when a faint reply travelled through her ears.
