Athena smiled at Caesar as he rushed up to the woman and guided her over to the two interview seats, the Capitol citizens still in awe about how goddess-like the District 8 woman looked. She could sense the anticipating stares of the other victors onstage behind her, but she knew she was going to do anything she could to stun them.
"Athena, may I start by saying you look fantastic tonight!" The famous interviewer began, emphasising the 'fantastic', "Doesn't she look fantastic?" Caesar repeated, looking out to the adoring crowd who cheered in response.
"Thank you Caesar, but all credit goes to my stylist, she even shocked me with this!" The woman replied, whilst pointing out to Celeste, who stood up in gratitude and waved back.
"Well give it up for Celeste then!" Caesar exclaimed, playing along with Athena. "Come, come sit down, let's have a talk." The man quickly continued, sitting down in sync with his interviewee.
"Ok so first, I think we all need to hear about what has happened since we saw you last. Care to explain?"
"Of course Caesar," Athena began, putting on her innocent-but-deadly act, "I went home and greeted all my loyal fans back home, and then went over to my new house, kindly provided by the Capitol, and greeted the other three victors in my District. After that, they decided they wanted to give me some recovery time after using lots of my energy in my games, and so I haven't really needed to mentor that often. How have you been Caesar?"
"I have been doing spectacularly here in the Capitol, I'm touched you asked." Caesar dramatically placed a hand on his heart at this. "But what we all want to know is what occurred with you and Finnick Odair, our favourite, and only, male District 4 victor. I think all of us remember that you fought with the poorer citizens of your District, a bad act on your part Athena, but then our caring President brought Finnick over to your home, and the next we saw of you and him was when you slapped him just before this year's tribute parade!"
Athena could uncomfortably feel Finnick's gaze on her, waiting for the answer that could reveal everything, or nothing at the same time. Knowing this, she figured that her response should explain the bare minimum, but make their current relationship a mystery, all for the sponsors.
"Well, where to begin?" Athena started, tears threatening to form as she recounted all the events she and the other victor had been through. "At first, I was unsure of the man, as his reputation in Panem was so high, I didn't want to bring it down. But President Snow sent him to my District, so I thought it was my duty to tour him, and accommodate him." Most of these sentences were to be lies, as their relationship had gotten off to quite a dark and rocky start. If the Capitol wanted a good story, there had to be lies. What would Panem be like without lies?
"The tour went well, and we spoke to each other about our games experiences: something we would never forget. After that, we went back to my house and he met the other victors. The next few days were full of meeting the District 8 dwellers, something which Finnick found fascinating." As Athena said this, she turned back to Finnick and they exchanged a special glance. A glance that said 'I know you're lying but it's what the Capitol expects, but I will forever love you for playing along with it so well'.
