warnings: mentions of suicide, heart disease, death

(i actually wrote this a really long time ago but didn't post it because it made me really sad while writing it lol. but i was cleaning out the docs in my computer and came across it again, and thought... why not)

(it isn't the saddest thing i've ever seen but maybe it's because it's one of the saddest thing i've ever written haha.)

she isn't one to believe in fate, but meeting him..

it had to be an exception. by chance, she met her perfect half. someone who melded so well into her, like a piece of a puzzle.

winter made the air around them dry and cold, but their beating hearts were warm. even in the midst of the first, light snowfall.

a smile lifted her face when she looked at him, her arm around his as they walked to the convenience store.

"i guess i'm stuck with you forever."

taehyun chuckled.

"that's what it looks like," he replied, "this is the third first snow."

"wait, really?"

he sighed and side eyed her shocked expression.

time went fast, she realized. then she realized that their third anniversary was in january...

"you're cheating!" she exclaimed.

he wasn't. she just sucked. taehyun laughed and denied it, dealing the final blow to which she hurled the controller on the couch behind them.

but he felt a pain in his chest that stopped him mid-laugh, and lightly brushed his hand against it before retracting and hoping she didn't notice. she didn't, being angry about losing.

he was relieved.

there was a knock on the door, but before he could open it, it swung open, revealing chaeryoung with a bag of groceries. why does she even bother?

"evening," she greeted him lying on the couch, about to make her way to the kitchen. but she stopped in her tracks, taking a few steps backwards and sitting on the edge, still wearing her coat.

"are you okay?" she asked, worried.

he didn't want her to be worried.

"you look so pale," she continued.

like he had been drained of his energy.

"i've been too stressed about the company lately," he said, stopping her imagination from going crazy. she was a little relieved to hear that—she almost thought it was serious.

"what's wrong with you?!" she exclaimed, "take care of yourself!"

flinging her coat blindly to wherever it was going to land behind her, she swept the hair out of his face. how could she not notice?

she continued to run her hand through his hair as she searched her memories for any earlier signs. he eased into her touch.

"dinner can wait if you want."

in response, he nodded, letting out a deep breath. could he be here, really, forever?

upset over not knowing about it, she sighed:

"tell me if you get sick, alright? i feel like you could hide a deadly disease from me."

horribly guilty, he resisted the urge to press his hand back on his chest.
