the boy fell back, his wooden sword fallen beside him. the point of his opponent's stopped just an inch from his nose. some cheers were heard by the onlookers that took a moment to watch. his eyes shined in admiration for his hero.

choi beomgyu offered him a hand.

"you're good, kid," he said with a smile.

with the widest grin, he thanked him and ran back to his friends to tell them what he said. almost immediately, he was flocked in by the crowd that formed during their small match.

he's got it all, it seems. and it's how he feels too—there's no better life than the one he has right now, although it would've been even better if his aunt was still here. she was the one who raised him, but even with the fact that he had been expecting this for a long time, no amount of preparation could ease the hole she had left.

but it's been a while since then, and her memory was kept close to him. he was better than before but he had become somewhat... haughty.

if he were to say he didn't like all this attention, he'd be lying. there was always a faint smirk playing on his lips when he smiled.

"careful," his aunt had said, "no one'll fall for you if you keep thinking like that."

baloney, he thought. any beautiful girl would would fall for him. it's just the matter of which one.

a shriveled red petal fell from the rose in the glass dome, losing its unearthly glow. more time was lost to break her curse—to break their curse.

if she were alone, it would've been better. she wished it was.

"ryujin?" called a voice, "are you in here?"

the little clock somehow made her way onto the small table top where the rose was.

"man, we're running out of time," yeji said with a sigh. what were they going to do?

in the moment, it was the wrong thing to say. she realized that when she caught a look of ryujin's expression.

"but-" she rushed, "we still have time."

before she could respond, another voice spoke up.

"if you're thinking about apologizing again, save it please," the candle said, maybe even being here before yeji was. he appeared next to the clock. "for the last time, this isn't your fault."
