“Preach the Gospel at all times, and when necessary, use words.” St. Francis Assisi
Perhaps, this reality is so inspiring yet so sad in a way. It is because we are reminded that we should preach the gospel-the perfection of love and on the other side, to act more than talk. I do believe that the latter is so hard for us Christians because oftentimes we are “announcement oriented”. What do I mean announcement oriented? It means only one thing, sometimes we publicize that we are going, have, and had help, thus drawing that we lack humility.
The world runs a different race if we take St. Francis’ thought. The world usually, makes those people who excel in riches, talent, wisdom and the like be invulnerable to unacceptance because their offenses become more pleasing at it shows though technically the same. Plus, these kinds of people usually make small things big so that it may add to their honor.
Moreover, Pope Francis is so admirable in his chosen name where he stressed mercy, compassion and love. Indeed he has gone to almost part of the globe preaching, but take note- not by many words but by actions. Thus his actions become his words and his words now become a very effective message.
Well, we all know that not all things can be moved with actions. Now here’s the catch, the Pope is now trying to counter flow what the world is used to for how many years. In addition, Pope Francis tackled the heart of the sickness in our world today. In his book, “The Way of Humility” he stressed that humility is the only way to achieve peace, harmony and unity.
Pondering on our Pope’s thought, I think I’ve never been humble. Because even if I am always going for the truth and charity it couldn’t be denied that my sense of self is always there. I may be speaking of truth inasmuch as I could, but the manner I present it is most of the time for self gain.
I believe this is what it means of being a Christian- to live like true sons and daughters of Christ. Preaching I believe is more of an act of love that is exemplified by the very words that come out of our mouths.
