Who Am I?

In today’s gospel, Jesus is asking Peter on whom he is to the people and who he is to him.

We all know that God is ever complete, but why is it that in the gospel he seemed to ask his self image? Does it mean that we need to affirm his image? For us, affirming his image might be a yes or a no, but what he stressed out is his definition that he is the savior that the mankind needs.

Do we see God as the savior of our lives? Well, most of us see it or realize it superficially. It’s because we forgot to follow his commandment of loving. Anyhow, forgetting of such a love is manifested on our mindsets of monopolizing our talents, treating someone into something, treating a friend into a stranger and doesn’t want others to be on top.

If we are God, our judgment on the people would be, “Such a jerk! You don’t know how to share my love to others.” However, we are not God to judge and God’s way is really amazing. It is because though frail as we are, we are strengthened by God like what he said to Peter, “…and on this rock I will build my church…”

Furthermore, God let himself be defined by the voice of Peter, it’s because we can always become channels of the Good Christ. Besides, by the asking of Jesus to Peter, in the same way, we are also dear to him, so, he will never leave us.  May we define salvation in everything that we think and do. Amen.
