As I was washing my clothes, there were many reflections that came to my mind. Two of those were about the physiological activities that we usually do and others were about the physical characteristics that we have. Yet, oftentimes it seems that we are not used to look at things beyond its physical manifestation. So here are the five questions and my simple contemplation behind it.
1. Why do we have only one heart and two feet?
We all know that the heart contracts involuntarily in our body and it pumps blood to support our lives. In this case, God gave us only one heart to remind us of commitment and faithfulness. A single heart signifies that we must be committing our hearts wholly and fully. Especially in our chosen vocation: be it single blessedness, priesthood, religious life or marriage.
And we have two feet in order to balance our healthy posture. In the same manner, God wants us to balance ourselves. Our feet represent our spirituality and sociality. And without one of these two is imbalance. For spirituality without people’s relation is useless and human relation without God is idiocy. Let’s strike the balance in the reminder of our feet.
2. Why is it hard to walk backward and why we can’t see our back?
Simply because of the fact that our feet is designed to walk forward. Walking backward is a paradigm of immaturity. And if one continues to live in his or her past, he or she will suffer the illness of discontentment due to the fact that he or she could do nothing. In spite of the backward perspective, the Lord still invites us to always walk forward with Him with content. And obviously speaking, our eyes are located in front. But in the human perspective; we tend to have great trust in our eyes for we believe that we have a broad vision. But in the reality, our eyes have a very narrow vision for a person cannot even see his or her back. The point of having this limitation in our vision means that we always have to ask the guidance of God and at the same time, to be interdependent with others to fill our weaknesses.
3. Why is it that no matter how hard we jump, we always land with our feet on the ground?
Aside from the law of gravitational pull that tends to set objects back to the ground. We also have these tendencies of falling despite having the greatest fame, the richest money, the most brilliant mind on earth. Because God reminds us that we are on the same ground no matter who one’s are, still no one can go beyond the Creator. In this sense, humility is a soft fall.
4. Why is it that when we desire something, those thoughts do not happen instantly?
I think God believes in the saying that “there’s no glory without sacrifice.” So that’s why he wants us to work and to receive what is due to us.
5. Why do we have a face, if God can create a human being without a face?
Who will see the perfection in the imperfection? Perfection in the imperfection means that we are created in God’s perfect love despite that our noses, heads, ears, tongues and teeth may seem disproportional but it is the Lord who establishes a living proof of His love in us by our own uniqueness. We might be ugly for others, but remember God is with us manifested by our own appearances and identities.
These five contemplations can’t contain God’s fullness. Moreover, many questions run in our heads unanswerable. In spite that, He always fills us with flame of inspirations and assures us that He is always with us in our day-to-day existence. Old, young, fat or thin is invited to share the light of God and be grateful of what he or she is having.
