Have you ever met a sad person? (ex. Criminals, Prostitutes, Backbiters, Cheaters or everything that corresponds to it) If yes, then what were your reactions? Were you anxious, sad or even mad? Whatever or whichever the case maybe, we are of the same quality to them. How? I don’t know. But all I know, in one way or another, we have also experienced what they’ve been into.

I think all of us have experienced hurts, pains or even shames. It may be a variation and combination of the following: the parents’ comparison of one child over the other, the ugly reality of failing the exams, the remnants of parent’s broken relationship, the departure of loved ones, the rejection of someone’s courtship, the degradation of one’s abilities, the poverty in its naked sense, and many more.

These failures are inevitable to us, Even so, many of us seems to go against it. Though in reality we evade to it and ironically failures chase us. That explains why most of us want to be on top, to be excellent, to go beyond boundaries and to remove the frailty in us.

I’m also one of the many wounded people who want to be on top and who want to experience greater glory. However, when a priest who happened to have achieved a lot in his lifetime be it in academe or in his societal character, sincerely told me, ‘Malungkot kapag nasa taas ka, wala kang kasama” (It’s so sad to be on top because your alone.)

Realizing this, I asked myself, “Marvz, what’s the meaning of your existence?” Then drops of tears shed on my eyes and I felt the blood flowed on the pen while writing the following:

To those who have been hurt much, I am here for you.

To those who are unheard, I’m listening to you.

To those who feel worthless, I’m willing to lift you up.

Perhaps the summary of these words is that all of us longs for love, and let that love be God.

St. Luke beautifully written our Gospel for today, where the imagery of the vertically challenged Zaccheus climbs the sycamore tree to see Jesus, then in return our Lord gave an intimate attention to Zaccheus by stating, “Zaccheus, come down quickly for I must stay at your house today.” I think it’s another way of saying, “My child no matter what happens, you’ll always be dear to me.”
