“Basi’g paspas ra kayo ta, nga dili na nato makita ang grasya sa Diyos” (We might be too swift that we can no longer see the grace of God.) –Fr. Nick- This quotation of a diocesan priest went concrete when I realize that Christmas is giving oneself to others as a treasure and appreciating others or everyone as a precious gift.

Before realizing those thoughts, my only idea of Christmas was the season of tiresome masses, of caroling, of changing gifts and of eating together with the family. I guess those ideas sprung because thing s seemed to be too usual that sometimes push the notion of “I feel I am not living.”

During the holidays, I experienced a different taste of Christmas. Not because of the family’s system of celebrating it but rather a new way of looking at it. I evaluated this Christmas as an opportunity to discover, thank, and recognize more God’s gift through the presence of my family and friends.

Moreover, Fr. Nick’s thought became my insigna- a philosophy that would give a deeper definition in my life, that is, “gratitude.” Although people might have achieved specific goals, there would always be a difference on the way someone looks at it.

In this sense, the way I look at it is a spiritual journey. It’s not only about the end which is Christ but the manner of trekking towards salvation. Instead of riding by myself, I will reminisce walking with all the people as much as my heart beats because only through this behavior I could say that the Christ is living in me.
