Chapter 25

I wake up with the same thought as last night, why did Kenny not show up to our date. I quickly get ready then head downstairs to meet Kiki in the kitchen.

Y: Morning kiki

K: hey. How'd you sleep, figure it wasn't easy.

Y: You guessed it.

She nods her head, knowing she was right. Then sits down next to me along with placing our plates in front of us.

K: So what's this boys name?

She emphasizes the word "this". I can tell she's not happy that I'm already talking to another boy, especially after a rough start.

Y: His name is Kenny, and I know what your thinking but you don't have to worry anymore cause I'm done with him after what he pulled yesterday, well romantically atleast.

K: If you say so, now get to school.

I do what she says. I put my plates in the sink then get my stuff to head to my car.

Once I arrive to school I angrily walk up to Kenny's locker where he's grabbing things for his next class. We make eye contact and he looks like he has seen a ghost.

Y: Really?? you say you have feelings for me and ask me on a date then don't show up!

K: Look, I can explain

Y: Try me!

K: Um I had this really important family dinner that I couldn't miss. I'm sorry but I promise Ill make it up to you

I don't buy it. He's definitely lying but I'm not going to stress over that right now.

Y: I'll see you later.

I say this without answering his question. I don't really want to see him for the time being. I walk to my first period. I pay a little more attention to Vallyk now that Kenny is not on my mind. I still miss being with him. Going on long drives with him, the creek, just overall being his friend. But that's too late now, isn't it.

When the bell to go to second class rings I get up and walk to second period without waiting for Kenny. He's been in this school long enough he should know how to make his way around the place. I sit down in class dreading for the moment Kenny would walk through the door.

When I see Kenny enter the classroom I roll my eyes and let out a sigh. He sits down next to me, with an upset look.

K: Really, you left without me and I got lost

Y: Not my problem, you should get to know your way around the school.

I say this without looking away from the front of the classroom.

K: I get your angry but I apologized and I'll make it up to you, what more do you need.

Y: The truth ok, you could have come up with something better than a family dinner you must think I'm dumb.

K: I was telling the truth

Y: Look, I don't know if you know this but in my last relationship I was cheated on, so if you really care about me and have the feelings you say you have, you'll tell me the truth, otherwise there's no trust. And without trust this relationship is not going far.

I finally turn to him, hoping he'll say the right thing. But we don't always get what we want.

K:....I can't say.

I scoff, more angry now than I was before. I turn my attention back to the front the classroom crossing my arms. If it were up to me I would walk out of this classroom and far away from this school. But with where that got me last time, I know now that's not a good idea.
