"Are we going in?"

Tsukishima nodded and started walking up the stairs. As they pushed open the door the smell of Coffee hit them both almost consuming them. It was such a comforting smell and it was so warm inside.

"Hello sorry for the-." Koda was about to speak and then stopped. The four others who were in the shop turned to stare at him.
"Well, well, well if it isn't The Smiler." She smirked. Everyone else looked shocked. Why was The Smiler an S rated ghoul standing in their shop?

"I'm Akiteru's brother." He said.
"And?" Koda replied leaning against the counter. Tsukishima looked stumped at her response and kind of annoyed. She smiled looking pleased with herself as she pushed off the counter with her foot.

"Your brother already called." Everyone in the shop looked confused.
"But something doesn't add up, why would an S rated ghoul come to our town looking for shelter?" Koda spoke in a confrontational manner.
Tsukishima sighed. "It's not for me." He moved aside to reveal a nervous boy stood in the door frame.
"Oh? And who is this?." Koda asked. He didn't reply so Tsukishima answered for him.
"This is Yamaguchi he travels with me."

"Are you really the Smiler?" Suga asked. Tsukishima was silent for a moment.
"Yeah I am. But I'm not anything like how the news says I am." That made sense. The news is very one sided, always portraying ghouls as the villains.

"Hey Tsukishima, Yamaguchi can I ask how old you boys are?"
"We're both fourteen."
Nobody expected that response. Both of them were very tall and the others expected them to be high schoolers.

"Oh wow so you're only middle schoolers?" Sugawara raised an eyebrow. And they both nodded.
"But we haven't been to school in a while." Yamaguchi finally spoke. Koda smiled at them.
"That changes here. It's a new start for the both of you."
Those words comforted the both of them. A slight smile appeared across their faces.

"Hey, once you get to high school you should join our volleyball team you both have the height for it!" Daichi laughed and the others joined in.
"Forever trying to recruit people." Kiyoko rolled her eyes.

About 10 months later. February 1st
1am:

The night was colder than most and a lot darker. They could feel the crunch of the frost beneath their feet. Tsukishima looked over into the alleyway which him and Yams had claimed as their territory. He could hear a slight rustling and smelled something suspicious. Yamaguchi followed him as they crept into the ally slowly. He knew that Tsukki would kill any ghouls who tried to take from his territory.

There was a ginger boy stalking a young woman from one of lower roof tops. Tsukishima's eyes changed colour and he shot his Kagune through the ginger boy and the woman. He flung the girl against the wall and walked over to the small ginger haired boy.

"What do you think you're doing?" Tsukki looked down at the boy who was clutching his ribs where his Kagune had pierced him.
"Well?" Tsukki waited for a response but the boy just curled up into a ball and tears streamed down his cheeks. He struggled to speak for a moment.

"I'm sorry, I just can't starve anymore I haven't eaten in months."
Tsukishima retracted his Kagune and just watched the boy cry.
"I'm done, I'm so weak." He paused for a second before putting his head in his knees and crying.
"Just kill me for all I care."

Yamaguchi just stared, if this had been a few months ago the boy would already be dead. Tsukishima looked down at him for a moment not really knowing what to do or say. It was clear the ginger boy had given up a while ago. After a few moments of tension had passed by, nobody really knew what was going to happen until he simply replied:

"No."

He picked up the boy in his arms and carried him back to the coffee shop. He went through the back entrance into the kitchen and placed the boy on the floor leaning him against the wall. He didn't speak and just sat there, blankly staring at the kitchen tiles.

Tsukishima bought down the first aid kit and lifted his shirt to see the hole he had stabbed through his ribs. It had already started to heal but he cleaned the wound to stop any infections. The boy was still staring still blankly at the kitchen floor.

"Thanks." His voice was raspy and quiet.

Yamaguchi was watching, sat on the kitchen counter. Tsukki had never done anything like this for anyone other than him before. He smiled knowing his best friend had a soft side to him.

"It's fine." Tsukki bought over a clean jumper to the boy and helped him change his top. His injury would probably be healed soon but he didn't want to risk the wounds opening back up.

"Where are we?" He looked around to see white walls and a small fridge freezer.
"My place." Tsukki helped the boy up hearing footsteps coming towards the kitchen.

"Hey is everything okay?" Koda walked in and saw them holding the boy up. He couldn't hold his balance and was almost passed out.

"Oh." Koda walked over to the freezer and grabbed two neatly wrapped packages and they followed her into a small room. They left the boy to eat alone and about half and hour later Koda knocked on the door. He said she could come in and she smiled sympathetically.

"How long has it been since you last ate?" She leaned against the door frame arms crossed.
"four months."
Koda was surprised the boy hadn't gone completely insane by now. Most ghouls would have.
"Come with me, you're safe now." He stood up and followed her to the main cafe where the others were sat. He took a seat at a table alone.

"Here this should warm you up." Suga set down a cup of coffee next too him, he sipped it slowly. It was warm and comforting a feeling he hadn't felt in a while.

"What's your name." Ukai asked him. but he didn't answer and just looked away.
"You can tell us you know, we're your own kind."
He knew this, but was still scared. The incident in the ally had shaken him up a bit.

"Sorry." Tsukki spoke not looking at him as he said this. He looked up and then lowered his head again quickly. Yamaguchi smirked. It wasn't often that he got to hear Tsukki apologise.

"I'm Shoyo Hinata."
They smiled and he slowly started to became more comfortable around them.

"So Hinata where's your family." Koda grabbed a chair and sat next to him. His eyes filled with tears but he wiped them away quickly.
"I don't know the CCG came and-." His words were cut off by his tears and he covered his eyes with his hands.

"If I had just gotten home earlier I could have protected them, my mum and my sister." He started sobbing louder, Kiyoko rushed over to him and started hugging him trying to calm him down. After a minute or two he stopped crying and apologised.

"Hey, you don't need to apologise." Koda patted his back.
"How old are you?"
"I'm fifteen." Nobody expected that reply, he was small for someone his age. Especially compared to Tsukkishima and Yamaguchi.
"Hey you're really small for you age!" Noya teased.
"You're probably smaller than the shrimpy over there." Tsukki smiled and chuckled to himself.
"Hey!" Noya slapped the back of his head.

Daichi noticed a volleyball key chain that was attached to one of his pockets.
"Oh you like volleyball?" Daichi looked over at him,
a moment of passion filled Hinatas eyes.
"Yes I love it, I play on a team in my middle school."
They all looked confused for a second he was short for a volleyball player. But their expressions changed to happiness seeing the look in his eyes.
"You should join our team, we play at Karasuno."

That made Hinata really happy. Karasuno was the high school he had applied too. He was just happy he would get to play volleyball with his own kind. Hinata and the others talked for about an hour just about volleyball. They arranged for Hinata to live at the shop for while. He was happy. Finally he could be with his own kind again.
