Graduation day came and as much as it was supposed to be a happy day it ended up being bittersweet. We didn't bother packing much luggage. We had to begin a new life, pretty much erasing any trace of our former identities. The only things I packed were a few spare changes of clothes and a tooth brush. Of course I included a volleyball. The ceremony seemed to drag on. I kept checking the time whilst spiking balls Kageyama sent my way. This could be the last time I get to play volleyball in a while. Recently, I've noticed how tired Kageyama seems. He has these dark bags under his eyes and he's always so pale.
I guess it's understandable. One minute he's human the next he's not. That would be terrifying for anyone.
Yachi bought us all flasks filled with Coffee. I unscrewed the lid and the hot steam burned my face causing Tsukishima to laugh at me. We all sat in a circle silently. Every now and again one of us would throw a playful insult around to try and loosen the tension, but it was hardly ever successful.
About an hour later the third years finally walked in clutching their rewards from graduation. We all packed up the gym and silently left. Not one of us wanted to look back. The atmosphere was so dull and heavy.
"Hinata." Before we got into the minibus Kageyama pulled me into a hug. It seemed as if the hug was more to comfort himself rather than me. I was kind of like his teddy bear. If he needed any kind of comfort he wouldn't hesitate to pull me into hug.
We boarded the minibus with Kageyama clutching my hand trying to suppress his nerves. I could feel his hand constantly shaking so I squeezed it as tight as I could in an attempt to stop it. For the rest of us, running away wasn't something that necessarily scared us anymore. It had become normal in a way.
The bus journey was quiet most of the way. Takeda, who was a human, still helped us. He had become good friends with Coach Ukai who he had found out was a ghoul. When he found out most of the team were ghouls, we expected him to report us. But he didn't. He helped us quite a lot and allowed us to run away. We were all forever grateful to him.
After a while of driving we noticed there were two white vans trailing behind us. They seemed to stop and start again. Ukai took two right turns to see if they were following us. Which they were. He took about four right turns before the minibus was cornered by a group of white vans.
In each of the vans there were two men. After a minute of staring intensely trying to figure out a plan another van joined the one behind us. It also had two men in it. One of them being Kageyama's dad.
"Shit."
I heard Ukai mutter under his breath. Everything was so silent it was deafening. Eventually the men stepped out of the vans. One of them boarding the bus. He was holding a briefcase and immediately we knew what was happening. His eyes focused on me and he smirked.
"We're here for the little ginger."
Everyone turned to face me and Kageyama gripped my hand tighter in his. Then he whispered.
"We won't let them take you."
It felt weird for Kageyama to comfort me like that. Usually I was the one comforting him.
I saw him click the handle which released the briefcase revealing a quinque. It was glowing red and he held it almost like a hammer. Before I could even react shards of blue and red were fired over my head.
We didn't have a plan but that wouldn't stop us from fighting. Of course Nishinoya was the first to jump in. Little did the CCG officers know they had infiltrated a mini bus full of ghouls.
I wanted to help them fight but Ukai pulled me, Kageyama and Yamaguchi behind him. Yamaguchi was a ghoul who's Kagune wasn't very strong. It wouldn't be very good in helping with combat situations. However, he was mentally stronger than any of us. Even if it didn't seem like it.
