Chapter 42

Sophie's POV

"They're sending Keefe and Biana to the dungeons?" I ask.

"That is what our spy reported."

"And on whose orders was this?"

"Prince Fitz."

"The Prince?" I gasp.

"Yes."

"Thank you," I dismiss the Black Swan member.

"What are we going to do?" asks Dex.

I turn and see Dex along with the twins.

"I don't know," I admit with a sigh.

"He's obviously been corrupted by the Neverseen," says Linh.

"Or he's showing his true colors," Tam states.

"Tam!" gasps Linh as I sigh.

"What?  We need to explore all of our options here!"

"What we need is a plan to spring Keefe and Biana out of Prison."

"How did the King and Queen agree to this?" Linh asks.

"It's likely that the Neverseen also control the King and Queen," Dex answers.

"Sophie?" asks Linh.

"I don't know," I confess, "I need to talk to the Council."

"Soph?" Dex asks, confused.

"Please," I beg, "just give me time."

T I M E  S K I P

I gather all my friends after meeting with the council, "So here's the plan."

"Are you okay?" Dex asks, interrupting me.

"Of course, why wouldn't I be?"

"Well your sort of boyfriend has a girlfriend and you were real stressed earlier," Linh chimes in.

Tam nods in agreement.

"Well, I'm fine now."

The three share a look before Tam says, "You mentioned a plan?"

"Yes, the Neverseen have taken over the castle, now is the perfect time to wipe them out, for good."

I'm met with three gaping stares.

"I will also be revealing my identity."

"What?"

"No!"

"You can't!"

"That is part of the plan, I go into the castle, as Moonlark, and then you will rescue Keefe and Biana."

"But, Sophie, what about you?"

"While you are rescuing Biana and Keefe, I will try and get close to the Prince."

"The Prince?" asks Dex.  "Why would you want to go near the person who trapped two of your friends in the basement?  And the person who has been chasing the Moonlark for a year?  And you're going as the Moonlark?"

"I'm with Dex, couldn't you get close to Fitz while being Sophie?" Linh asks.

"No," Tam says, pulling our attention to him, "Sophie couldn't.  If she could, then Sophie wouldn't be revealing herself.  Now that the palace has been taken over by the Neverseen, Sophie can't light leap, correct?"

Three pairs of eyes turn on me, and I nod, confirming what Tam said was true.

"When will this plan be enacted?"

"Tonight."

Silence envelopes the room, none of us willing to continue talking.

"We will see each other again," Dex says, not sounding confident.

"Of course," Linh agrees, with the same amount of confidence.

"We'll see each other again," Tam repeats.

"All of us," I whisper.

This is going to be one of the last chapters.  The next chapter will be the last, if no one wants an epilogue.
