Chapter 23

Fitz's POV

With my sister disappearing for five whole minutes and the Light Jewels being gone in that time period I'm starting to think she's in the Black Swan to.

But I can't focus on that or who I suspect because having Sophie Foster look through my head while I'm thinking this would not be good.

"OK for today's Cognate lesson you two will try to get to each others Emotional center," my dad says.  "I will call in a special guest once you do so to help with the other part of  the lesson."

We both nod.

"Do you want to go first?" I ask her.

"Sure," Sophie responds.  

Once she says 'I'm in' -out loud I might add- I dive into her mind, but almost immediately get blocked.  

So I give her mind the secret words, 'It's me' and like magic I'm in her mind.

After a few minutes of exploring I find her emotional center which is a swarm of colors. 

I open my eyes and nod.

"OK then, now that you're both in the others emotional center Keefe come in!" my father says.

Keefe comes swaggering into the room.

"What exactly is Keefe here for?" Sophie asks.

With a hand on his chest he says, "You hurt me Foster."

"Heart's on the other side," I say.

He switches his hand. 

"Sorry, Keefe.  What I meant to say is why is Keefe helping us with today's lesson?"  Sophie asks.

"We're going to see if you can guess each others emotions by the changing colors in the emotional center," my dad says.

"How will this help us become cognates?" I ask.

"It will form a bond between your minds," my dad reply's.  "So who wants to go first?"

I raise my hand.  MY father turns toward his desk so his back is facing me.

"Good.  Sophie close your eyes."

She nods and does as she's told.

"Fitz, no noise OK?"

"I nod.

"Good,"  my father turns around and hits me in the face with something.

"Foster what emotion do you think Fitz was feeling?"  Keefe asks.

"Shock."

"Surprise, but close enough."

My dad shows me a picture of Sophie smiling.

"Happiness."

"Good."

Then my dad puts a spider on my arm.

"Fear."

"Yep!"

"Your turn Sophie," my dad says and I close my eyes.

In her emotional center the colors change from plain pink to a deep green.

I get a feeling of disgust coming from her so I say, "Disgust."

"Yes," Keefe responds.

Then a nice rosy pink and a different feeling, "Happiness."

"Contempt, but close enough."

A yellow color coming from her and a nice feeling of, "Trust."

"You got it!"

"Alright that's your lesson done for today, please come back next week," my dad says.

"You got it," me and Sophie say.

"But one last question before you go, do you feel like you can trust each other more?"

"Yes," I say and Sophie nods.

"Good, Thank you Keefe.

The mentioned person salutes.

"I'll see you tomorrow for our date," I say to her once we're outside the kings office.

"Yep!"
