Chapter 33

Sophie's POV

After a fitful night sleep, the morning has finally arrived.

I re-check my weapons and then re-check my ash.

Once I'm satisfied I head up to the leapmaster.

"Sophie?  Where are you going?"  I hear Edaline ask.

"Well, mom, I am going to Linh and Tam's place?"  I lie to my adoptive mother.

"Oh, ok.  Come home before dinner!"

"We're having a sleepover."  I lie again.

"Well have fun," Edaline says frowning.

"We always do."

"Is Sandor coming with you?"

"No, he decided to help with protecting the royal family."

Edaline nods.

"I'll see you tomorrow?"

"Yep," I say watching my mom walk downstairs.

I soon find myself at the one of the many Black Swan bases.  Only the twins are there both in their cloaks.

Tam nods in hello and Linh says, "Good morning, Sophie."

"Good morning, Linh, Tam," I say as Dex appears with his silver cloak.  "Do you know when Biana is coming?" 

All three of them shake their heads.

Mr Forkle approaches us with a frown, "Is Biana not here yet?"

I shake my head, slipping on my cloak.

"Well if she doesn't appear soon we'll have to send another vanisher in her place."

I scowl at him, "No she needs to be apart of this."

"We will not put off rescuing the prince because you think Biana needs to be apart of this!"

"Her brother was kidnapped, I think she needs to be apart of this!"

Forkle opens his mouth to respond when a voice says, "I'm here!  I'm here!"

I turn away from the man beside me and face my friend, "Biana!  How are you?"

"I'm good.  No one noticed me escaping."

"How did you manage to do that, anyway?"

Biana chuckles, "It's a long story."

"One that we don't have time for," Mr Forkle interrupts.

"Right, so everyone knows their roles right?"

The four teens nod back at me.

T I M E  S K I P

I watch as Tam slinks off, into the shadows, with Dex to scout out the area.

Linh and Biana grab my hands as I enhance Biana.

Soon the three of us are walking towards the area, that one of the Black Swan spies told us, where Fitz was being held.

We pass doors that are marked with strange symbols before finally reaching the door with no symbols.  

"This is the one," I mutter to Biana and Linh.

I try the handle with my free hand, locked.  I use my mind to force the door open as quietly as  possible.

"One three?"  asks Biana.

"One," says Linh.

"Two," I reply.

"Three!"  we quietly exclaim running into the room.  

I quickly stifle a gasp as I look around the room.  It looks exactly like the one they held me in a few years ago.  There is a plain wooden chair in the middle of the room nothing but bars separating the chair from Biana, Linh and I.  On the chair is my cognate, and Biana's brother, Fitz.  

"Fitz?"  asks Biana.

"Biana?"  asks Fitz quietly.

"No.  I am Magic of the Black Swan.  Moonlark, Aquamarine, Midnight, Tech and I are here to rescue you from the Neverseen."

"What is the Neverseen?"

"The group that has you bound here," Linh says while I open the bars that separate Fitz from the rest of us.

"Why haven't I heard about them?"

"Well aren't you full of questions," I say sarcastically.  "We are here to rescue you so stop asking questions!  You can ask them later once we are safely out of here.  Understand?"  I go up to Fitz and untie his bonds.

"Yes."

"Good."

Fitz stands up and shakes out his arms.

"We need to go," Linh says looking out the door.  "They could be back soon and we don't want to be here when they do."

I nod as Biana leads the way, Linh follows with Fitz and I bring up the rear.

We only made it a few steps out the door before Dex and Tam ran past, yelling at us to run well, Dex was yelling at us to run.  Tam was just running.

Biana, Linh and I share a look, mystified.

That's when I hear footsteps.

My eyes widen and I look at the girls and Fitz and only have time to yell, "Run!"
