Chapter 8

Reader POV

  We rode out a bit farther and then we made a stop. I walked up towards Levi and looked around. I didn't see the rest of his squad. We got back on our horses not to long later. I rode near the back beside the cart with the bodies on it. Some Titans came towards us. Two of them came towards us. Some people came riding towards us. I knew that at least one of them was going to be eaten so I turned my horse around. I rode up to them all and stood up on my horse. I used my ODM gear to take down its legs then went for the nape. The Titan and a man in his hand I sliced down the nape then went to get him out.

At the time I hadnt noticed but when I was going back to my horse I saw it. The titan I had just slayed had Rays body in it. I ran over to him.... Dead.

We made a quick stop to remake our positions then rode out again. No Titans managed to catch up with us this time.

When we got back inside the safety of the walls I went up to Levi. "H-hey, Levi." I started, he turned his head. "D-do you know where Petra and Oluo?" He looked me in the eyes. He look my hand up and put something in my hand. He turned around and whispered a soft sorry.

   I looked down. I had four little pins in my hand. On closer inspection most of them were covered in blood. I walked up to some water and washed them. That's when it hit me, these are. These are Petra, Oluo, Gunther and Eld's pins. The ones that I gave them. I felt tears come out of my eyes and everything blurred up and I ran into the dorm that I was staying in. I looked at the pins.

One of them was a shield, that was Gunthers. The second one was a sword, Elds pin. The third on was the moon, that was Petra, I made her that one because we often stayed up late looking at the moon. The last one was the stars, that was Oluos. We watched the stars on Friday nights. I didn't even get to spend a whole day with them in the past year. They're dead? How? Why didn't I ask to go onto their team? I can't even help 4 people how am I meant to help my new friends?

Is this my fault? Of course it is. I started blaming myself about everything I knew deep down I didn't do. I cried for hours and in the end I decided to promise something. "Petra, Eld, Gunther and Oluo I promise that I'm going to protect all my friends from the Titans, no matter the cost." I whispered to the sky. I opened up my jacket a bit and put on all the pins. I placed them beside the pin that they made for me. It was a crown surrounded by hearts. I wiped my tears and set of back towards campus.
