Chapter 4: Heart Attack

Later that evening, Imperial Capital

Following the Jaegers' meeting with the Emperor, all seven of them sat in a dining room with plates of food and glasses of wine in front of them. Everyone was rather lively, minus (Y/N) and Wave as the former had his head burrowed into a notebook with a pen in his hand while the latter felt a bit intimidated by the presence of (Y/N), who was seated right next to him.

(Y/N): "Wave."

Wave flinched and sat up straight, something (Y/N) took note of.

(Y/N): "Why are you so nervous?"

Wave: "Um... It's just that I... I-"

(Y/N): "It's alright Wave, I can understand why'd you be so nervous around me."

A large sigh of relief came from Wave.

(Y/N): "That being said, allow me to alleviate some of your nervousness. Ask me anything."

Wave: "Oh... Ok. Um... What do you like to do in your free time?"

(Y/N): "Free time? I hardly get any of that these days."

A tired sigh escaped (Y/N)'s lips as he slumped in his seat slightly.

(Y/N): "But if I were to say there was one thing I enjoy, it's writing." *Smiles* "When I'm writing I feel truly free. I'm able to express myself in ways I wouldn't be able to if I was around others."

Wave: "What about the general?"

(Y/N): "Esdeath? Well-"

Esdeath: "Torturing people, forming new methods of torture. But as of lately, I've found an interest in romance."

Everyone that heard Esdeath was shocked. The general? Who's only interests were war and spilling blood? Impossible, they all thought. Well, all but (Y/N) anyway.

(Y/N)'s was still calm as can be and sipped from his cup with his eyes closed, a slight smile on his face. This reaction caused confusion and interest amongst the others.

Wave: "Are you interested in that, (Y/N)?"

(Y/N) froze momentarily before opening his eyes and setting his cup down on the table. His eyes flickered towards Esdeath for a split second, but it was too quick for anyone to notice.

(Y/N): "Maybe once the war is over, but as of now, my priority right now is eliminating Night Raid and winning this war."

Esdeath let out a surprised hum.

Esdeath: "I didn't know you had a love interest, (Y/N)."

(Y/N): *Chuckles* "There are a lot of things you don't know about me, Esdese."

A dagger of ice formed in Esdeath's hand, nearly poking (Y/N) in the eye. Murderous intent surrounded her being.

Esdeath: "I've told you NOT to call me that in front of others."

(Y/N) merely rolled his eyes at the Empire's Strongest.

(Y/N): "Sure thing, Esdese."

Everyone else in the room couldn't help but snicker at the scene. Esdeath's cheeks flushed red from embarrassment and rage. The expression she wore looked as if she was ready to kill (Y/N). This was ignored by (Y/N) as stood up and ventured his way to the black-haired female in the room, who was paying no attention to (Y/N) at the moment.

He quickly caught her attention however when he took what appeared to be a cookie from a bag she had.
