Right kind of "Love"

So in this one Max doesn't have an activity because his parents would send him there to get used to it and get rid of him until he was old enough to go to the "church camp" for teens. It's implied to be a conversation camp, and my theory is that Max is gay, which is why he seemed to be the only one who knew about it. He mentions that he wouldn't know anything about it because he's a kid, but it sounds like he's trying to ignore what he knows will eventually happen to him. Max also tends to oversell being strait either to try to convince others or himself. Also, he tends to show no interest whatsoever in any of the girls on the show. He seems to be objectively closer to Neil than Nikki, and the only other friend we hear about is Chucky, who Max seemed very close with.

Just a little rant sorry lol, but ya gotta know it for this chapter. (And yes I know Max's family is Hindu but that wouldn't necessarily mean they would take the time to find one that would teach anything specific)

Neil's P.O.V.

"Bye, Dad!" I exclaimed as I hopped out of the car and kicked the door shut. Finally a break from his cringe. A squeal was heard in the distance. Oh no, was all I had time to think before a human bullet sent me crashing to the ground. "Nice to see you too Nikki," I wheezed. She got off of me so we can stand and I brushed myself off. Fifth summer here, you'd think I'd be prepared for this kind of thing. My dad drove away as Nikki dragged me towards everyone to say hello. You'd also think that more people would fall for this camp scam, but I'm pretty sure we scared any possible new members away. I snickered at the thought. "Hey Neil," David greeted me at the door of the Mess Hall. The building was currently finishing renovations, so it was a bit messy inside. What else though? Since the Flower Scouts and Wood Scouts sell food to make money, we started selling things we made as well to raise money. Along with each of us coming every year, the councilors, who now owned the camp, saved up enough to completely remodel the place.

Cabins for us to stay in were still being built at this point, so we were all still in tents. It'll be nice when they're finally finished though.  "Who's all here?" I asked while planning to walk to the activities field. "I believe Nikki, Nerris, Nurf, Preston and Space Kid are here already." I nodded and walked out. The next day everyone was here. Everyone but Max. I was low key afraid this would happen-Max's parents would find something closer, or cheaper, or some other bullshit, and we'd never see him again. Granted I still had his number, but it wasn't the same. I asked David a week after camp started. "David?" I asked, "He's not coming? Is he?" David sighed and shakes his head sadly. Max hadn't been enrolled this summer. He hated the situation Max was stuck in at home. At least he had here to get away from it but now....he wasn't coming.  Nikki and I were the most upset, for obvious reasons, she was like a sister to him. I missed him more than she did though, even if she disagrees.

I huffed and walked to my tent that I now had to myself. Dream come true right? Not really. I was looking so forward to seeing everyone and now...now I know that I probably won't ever see Max again-or at least for another few years. It was still worth coming here, but definitely not the same. I laid on my cot for a few minutes, just staring at the "ceiling". I know I really shouldn't be too upset, I still spoke to him as often as I can, but I really cherished the time I had to just love him and make him forget the awful place he lived. Yes I said love. Max and I have been dating since last summer. No one knows about it, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was easily figured out. I was usually the only one who could keep his chaos under control. I smiled softly at the memory but it quickly faded. I really miss him. Does he miss me? I wouldn't be surprised. David and I were really the only one who knows the extent of what he really goes through...but even David doesn't know some things. Like that disgusting scar on his lower back.
