Against the laws of nature pt 2

Max's P.O.V.

"Max, please let me speak with you," Neil said calmly offering his hand. This boy. Completely calm when met with a giant wolf. How'd he know it was me? Now I'm positive that he knows more. He didn't move, waiting for my reaction. I bowed my head and walked to him. I phased back and took Neil's cold, sparkling hand. "Fine," I said finally, "but I want a full explanation." "A trade," he smiled, "A question for a question. Don't think I don't have any things about you I have yet to figure out." "No way!" I yelled, pushing away. I'm not sharing my personal sh*t with anyone! "Ugh, why not! I was so close! Come on, it literally drives me insane!" I was taken aback by his reaction. "Why not? It's not like we'll get in trouble or anything! We're both 'supernatural' beings!" There really was no reason to be secretive, we're both living in the same world.

"Whatever...," I smirked at his mini tantrum. "For now, let's go back to camp." Neil nodded and grabbed my hand again. We walked back to camp like that, in no rush. By the time we made it back, everyone was up. "So-," Neil started, but I cut him off, "We will start after lights-out. Meet me on the roof at 10." With that, I dropped his hand and strode to the Mess Hall. Neil chuckled and his footsteps sounded towards our tent. I sat our usual table to think, I was finally getting answers! I honestly didn't know what to expect. We'd agreed to no more walls between us. Don't know how he convinced me into that. Guess there's just something about him. I laid my head on the table. It's been one of the only things I've been able to think about since that first day. D*nm him.

~~~~~~~~~~~flashback~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Fuck off, David!" I yelled, exiting the Mess Hall. The red-head was trying to put me in a camp merch shirt. I stomped out of the Mess Hall and huffed in annoyance. Why can't he just leave me alone for one minute?! "H-hey," I heard from behind me and turned to the sound. It was a boy, taller than me (who wasn't), with curly brown hair. I scrunched my nose as a sent struck my nostrils. A vampire. But, wait, there was something else....I've never smelled this before. I noticed his crystal blue eyes. That's not possible. He couldn't be a blood-sucker, I could hear his heart pumping. Let's leave it for now. I decided. "'Sup, I'm Max." I started walking to the main area and motioned the boy to follow.
His eyebrows pushed together and he chewed the inside of his cheek as he followed me. "Hello? What's the matter over there?" He brushed of my tease. "Nothing, just something I'm trying to figure out. I am a man of science, after all. This is a puzzle I intend to solve." I later learned his name was Neil, and he continued to confuse me as the days continued on. His sent was definitely reminiscent of vampires, but there was something else, too. His heartbeat was undeniable, and he's bleed before. During one of our nature hikes, Nikki accidentally knocked Neil into a sharp branch, hard. His hand had a scrape, which the red liquid oozed from. He didn't bat an eye, and insisted that he was fine, despite it looking quite deep. There was barely a mark there the next day.
~~~~~~flashback over + time skip~~~~~~

I kinda avoided Neil all day. I didn't really want him to ask any questions before our agreed time. I needed some time to think about what we might talk about. Finally, the sun started to set. I stayed on the roof to wait, even though I still had about 20 minutes till 10. Breathing in the cooling evening air, I saw Neil wandering around, seemingly looking for something. I chuckled as I watched him go into our tent for a few seconds, then come back out and looking around. Guess he's starting to get impatient. I focused back on the sky, brilliant purples and oranges fading to blackness. I closed my eyes, deciding to rest them until it was time. I awoke to an all too familiar, too fast heartbeat. Guess I fell asleep. Oops. He was sitting next to me, looking at the now all dark sky. "What's going on?" I asked.
