Max's P.O.V.

"I'll miss youuuuuu," Nikki half screeched into my ear as she hugged me. Usually, I'm not really into that kind of thing, but it was time for her to go. Her mom was in the car, waiting for her. "I'll miss you too, Nik," I let out a huff before awkwardly returning the embrace. She was practically crying at this point. Neil walked up then, also gaining a rib braking hug. Nikki looked back and waved one more time before skipping to the car. It was the end of summer and majority of the kids were already gone. Space Kid, Erid, Neil and I remained. David was still annoying as ever, though there was no reason to still be so enthusiastic.

The sun was starting to set and Neil and I were sitting on the pier, watching the shy shift to a red-orange. "I hate to admit it," he started, "but I'm really going to miss it here. Especially you and Nikki." A soft smile made it's way onto my lips at his words. "Yeah, I guess I'll miss this hell hole too," I mumbled. I sighed, today was probably one of the last I had with this nerd, everyone would be picked up within the next two days. I laid back and watched as the orange slipped away to reveal bright stars. They looked so peaceful. Neil copied my actions. "Hey, Nerd?" I asked. Neil hummed in response, never looking away from the sky. "We'll continue being friends after this right?" It stung a little, getting those words out.

He looked over at me, "Of course. Someone has to keep an eye on a troublemaker like you." He smirked, awaiting my reaction. "Oh so you're my babysitter now? Sorry, Honey, I ain't listening to no sh*tty babysitters." A sudden surge of panic hit me when I'd realized my choice of words, I didn't let it show, though. He didn't seem to notice, which was a relief. We stayed like that for a while until I unintentionally fell asleep. I didn't realize I had until I awoke in our tent, Neil asleep on his own cot. I was a little confused on how I got there, but shrugged it off and went back to sleep.

Neil's P.O.V.

It had been a while since Max had spoken last, so I looked over to see him asleep. He looked more peaceful than I had ever seen him, happy even. I put my hand through his soft, floofy hair a couple times before picking him up and taking him back to the tent. I tried to set Max onto his 'bed' without waking him, but he had subconsciously wrapped his arms around my neck and wouldn't let go. I carefully took him off and set him down, observing his sleeping state once more. Like this, no anger in his face, relaxed eyes and calm skin, he looked utterly adorable. I decided to take a risk, I leaned over and pecked his soft cheek. I jumped when he stirred, expecting him to wake up, and almost inaudible, I heard him say "Thanks, assh*le." But he was still sleeping. That almost gave me a heart attack.

I looked back over after I stumbled awkwardly to my 'bed', still expecting him to wake up and ask me what that was all about. His eyes remained closed, his breath even. I fell asleep with a smile on my face. In the morning, I awoke to the familiar smell of coffee, and inhaled it greatfully. I sat up to see Max sitting on the floor of the tent near the door, looking outside with the flaps pulled to the side. "Morning," I mumbled, streatching. He turned to looked at me, nodded, and turned back to gaze out. "Sleep good?" I asked while pooring a cup for myself, "Want me to get you one?" He just nodded again. I sat next to him and looked out as well. It was too quiet, too empty. "Bet today's gonna be pretty boring," Max huffed taking a sip. An idea popped into my mind. "Why don't we take advantage of that, the emptyness, I mean?" I also took a sip of the coffee before I continued, "We'll have the whole camp mainly to ourselves, maybe we can make a day out of it!"

The thought made my stomache go bubbly with excitment. Max nodded and stood, walking out towards the Mess Hall. I stayed for a few moments, admiring the camp, it was hard to believe that it was already over. As I was about to leave, my phone rang, it was my mom. She told me that she had had a little problem on the way and would probably be late to get me, I told her that it was fine. I wanted to see Max off if I could. By lunch time, both Erid and Space Kid were gone. Even Gwen and the Quartermaster had left to go home, leaving me, David and Max. "Still here, huh," Max said in a teasing voice as he poked at his food. As I said, the Quartermaster was gone, so David had just made us some sandwiches. "Yah, my mom already called to say that she was gonna be late. Looks like you're stuck with me," I retaliated with a smirk, which he mirrored.
