No P.O.V.

On a warm May morning, a four year old sat in the grass, coloring in a small coloring book. He stuck his tongue out to the side a little, wearing the brightest white little hoodie and overalls in existence, signifying the status of his parents. Daniel being one of the most respected preachers in the community, one of the few permitted to display their purity through the color white, and David allowed to wear it in respect to his husband.

His parents were currently getting ready for their routine morning congregation, not worrying about his safety as he sat in front of their small home.

There was only one ranking position above Daniel, and those were the bishops, the only ones permitted to live in the large buildings to house Xemug's Speakers. It also happened to be the only building with electricity and running water.

It's said that Xemug's Speakers are a rare few chosen for their alleged absolute purity, able to hear and speak Xemug's words and commands. They are to be treated with the upmost and absolute respect. Currently there are three.

Soon there were the sound of small footsteps, catching the child's attention. He glanced up to see another kid, one with crystal blue eyes and scruffy brunette curls. He wore a light grey, different from the darker attire of his parents, since children were seen as as pure as they could or will ever be, besides ever becoming one of Xemug's Speakers of course.

"Hi!" The strange kid exclaimed, kneeling down next to him. "I'm Neil! What chu drawin?"

The smaller toddler picked up the picture. "Doggie."

"A dog?"

"Mhm!"

"You don't talkalot do you?" Neil asked, not waiting for an answer before moving onto his next question. "Why's everyone wearing grey? Where's all da color? People back home use to wear allll da colors."

The child in white shrugged. "I dunno."

"So was your name?" Neil tilted his head, taking the picture when the shorter child gave it to him.

"Mahabala."

"Ma-ha-ba-la?" Neil asked, a little confused. "That's a silly name."

The other shrugged as David emerged from their home, not even bothering to shut the door. "Maha-oh! Hello! Are you new here?" David beamed, leaning down to pick up his son.

Neil nodded. "Yeah my mommy is over der wit the neighbor. Daddy said I should play with him," he pointed to 'Mahabala'.

"Oh that's great! My little Maha could use a new friend. Why don't we go say hi to your parents? Maybe you two could even go to the sacrament together!"

Sacrament was the assembly held for the children during this time, instead teaching them the group's way of life and why they need to behave a certain way to appease Xemug. Further rituals would be taught once they were older.

That morning they did exactly as David had suggested, going to sacrament together every morning from then on.

Neil tried to make other friends, but Maha seemed content doing things himself. He didn't really talk unless someone asked him a question, and Neil kinda just stuck around him.

It was more so around when they were 10 when Maha seemed to finally except him as a friend, and not some kid who would just lose interest. After being stuck together for over five years though, it was a revelation a long time coming.
