Chapter 40 (Meredith)

My eyes slowly opened. The light shined in my eyes. I felt hands inside my mouth and noticed a tube come out of my mouth. At first I was alarmed but then I realized I was intubated and I was finally breathing on my own. I heard a voice in front of me, but I still couldn't fully see. "Nice to see you Meredith. Really threw us for a drive ball for a second."

I instantly knew the voice belonged to Bailey. I tried to speak but no words came out. "Mer it's fine don't talk. Just breathe your okay." Bailey said, sitting in the bed next to me.

I could now see her dark blue scrubs and smiling face.  I opened my mouth again snd words came out this time. "Can I see Amelia?"

"Of course. I'll go find her." Bailey smiled and headed for the door.

I stared out the window in the small ICU room. The sun gave the fresh blanket of snow a glowing effect. I thought of how it never ever snowed. In all sixteen years living in Seattle it almost never snowed.

There was a knock at the door. I turned around and noticed it was Teddy. She walked over and sat at my bed side. "Hey I heard you were awake. I came to see how you were doing."

"I'm fine. Just hanging in there you know."  I smiled.

"You wondering what happened to Derek aren't you?" she asked.

"Well... you know me so well Teddy." I laughed.

"Well I'm pleased to say Derek is fine. He's up, breathing on his own, and he's asking for you. Addison is sitting with him right now while Amelia stepped out for a second."

"Wait where did Amelia go?"

"Oh you didn't hear?..."

"Im right here."

I turned around and saw Amelia in the doorway. Her  mascara was running down her face and her hair was a mess. "Teddy if you'll excuse me I need to talk to Meredith... alone."

Teddy stood up and walked out the door. Amelia walked over to me and collapsed into my arms. I felt her pulse racing and I could feel tears on my hospital gown. I pushed her away slightly so I could see her face. I smiled and used my hand to wipe her tears. "Stop crying your a brain surgeon not a child."

She laughed and hit me on the shoulder. I moved over and patted the sheets. Amelia got on the bed and laid right next to me. She placed her head on my shoulder and I placed my arm around her body. She began to doze off and I stared at her as she slept.

A few hours passed by. Still holding Amelia close I flipped through the hospital channels. There was nothing good to watch. I made a metal note to myself that at the next board meeting we would have to discuss the tv channels. All of a sudden the door flew open. It was Jo. She was panting and trying to speak while she caught her breath. "Jo what is it?" I asked.

"I need to speak with Amelia. I've been looking for her forever." she replied.

I turned to Amelia and shook her til she woke up. "What...what is it?" she yawned.

"It's Jo, she wanted to tell you something." I explained.

Amelia looked at Jo gesturing her to spill it. Jo began to explain. "Amelia your FBI agents are outside snd they are looking for you. They need the videos and identification for Meredith and Derek."

"Wait, why is the FBI in my hospital and why do they need identification?"

Amelia got off the bed and looked at Jo. Jo nodded and Amelia turned to me. "Meredith, I don't know if you remember, but you were attacked. After reviewing security footage we think we caught the attacker. Also, we have reasons to believe your attacker is linked to the disappearance of Derek."

My face became blank as Amelia and Jo headed out the door.

i just took my PSATs and they weren't as hard as a thought. also i just found out ellen pompeo is considering leaving greys anatomy for good. i read an article stating she may leave greys to produce a new show coming to abc. i also heard she is leaving to build a skin care empire. regardless if she leaves or not the second half of szn 17 is airing a week later due to a surge in covid cases in california, delaying production/filing for many shows. if ellen does decide to leave, it will be deviating. i'm not sure if any of this is real bc ellen herself or the cast of greys has said nothing abt these rumors. also it was brought to my attention that chandra claimed greys was not ending. while this is relieving just remember ellen can call the show whenever she wants. so ig we'll have to see what happens...
